It’s almost time to put those dance shoes on. Well, not you, but you’ll be able to dance vicariously through the contestants on NBC‘s new series, Dancing with Myself!

NBC has partnered with global superstar Shakira to star and executive produce the upcoming dance challenge series. Joining her as creators are celebs Nick Jonas and Liza Koshy. Actress and model Camille Kostek serves as the primetime show’s host.

The show was partly inspired by Shakira’s “Girl Like Me” 2021 music video. Thanks to her fun and easy to follow dancing in the video, a dance challenge on Tik Tok went viral. Many users will remember how that dance took the social media platform by storm! The singer and dancer was inspired by her passion for dance and the “proliferation of dance challenges that have taken the world by storm,” according to a press release.

Social media’s dance craze has definitely been a thing, and NBC decided to tap into that. So what can we expect from the new show heading our way this summer?

Details on Dancing with Myself, NBC’s new dance competition series

Alright, so here’s how it works. Dancing with Myself will see a group of everyday people compete each week in a series of high-energy dance challenges designed and demonstrated by the show’s celebrity creators and host. Instead of serving as judges, the three creators will act more like advisors for the competitors.

Shakira, Jonas, Koshy and Kostek have come up with their own dance challenges specifically made for the show. They will perform each one for the contestants to take on. Guest celebrities will also submit their own challenges. Isolated in their own pods, the contestants will have a short time to learn the new routines and add their own spin to the dance to perform in front of a live audience.

According to NBC Insider, a total of 12 contestants will compete at the start of each episode. They will go through six different rounds:

  • Round 1, All Eyes on You: Each contestant does a solo performance. The audience selects eight winners, and the creators save two.
  • Round 2, Freestyle Battle Round: The remaining 10 Contestants go head-to-head in pairs of two for a freestyle battle. The audience chooses a winner from each match-up, and the creators save three.
  • Round 3, The Dance Along: Eight contestants compete against in groups of four. The choreography will be presented by a celebrity guest. The audience will choose one group to move on, and the creators save two contestants.
  • Round 4, Duo Collabs: Six dancers will split into three pairs and work together. The audience will pick their winning pair, and the creators save any two individual contestants.
  • Round 5, The Shake-Up: The four remaining contestants all dance at the same time as they’re faced with a different twist (or “Shake-Up”), like adding a prop or incorporating an iconic dance move. The audience chooses their top two to move on to the final round.
  • Round 6, Be the Creator: The final two will each perform a dance they choreographed at home to the same song. The audience will then vote for the winner.

As the competition goes on the creators will provide their feedback, but it’s up to the studio audience to decide who wins “Best Dancer of the Night,” and gets to take home the cash prize. The series will see people of all ages compete.

NBC Insider reports the new series will have a total of eight, hour-long episodes. It definitely sounds interesting. I love how creative it is. And, as someone who likes dancing, this definitely sounds like the show for me! Also, my girl Shakira is leading it? Sign me up! What about you?

Dancing with Myself is set to premiere on May 31 at 10 p.m. ET. The hour-long episodes will air weekly Tuesdays on NBC. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more NBC news and coverage!
