Warner Bros. Pictures has a new film, Don’t Worry Darling, coming our way this September. It has many people (including myself) very excited! Olivia Wilde lent her skills behind and in front of the camera for the upcoming psychological thriller.

Wilde served as director, with the screenplay written by Katie Silberman. Filming began in Los Angeles, California in Oct. 2020. It was temporarily halted for two weeks in Nov. when a crew member tested positive for COVID-19. But like many other movies and television shows, production was able to move forward and filming wrapped in Feb. 2021.

According to Variety, Wilde said the idea of the movie is inspired by InceptionThe Matrix, and The Truman Show. She shared this information at CinemaCon 2022, where movie theater owners and press got a first look at the film.

Here’s all we know about Don’t Worry Darling!

Don’t Worry Darling release date

The upcoming movie is set to premiere in theaters only beginning Sept. 23, 2022. After 45 days on the big screen, Warner Bros. usually moves its films to the small screens to be streamed through HBO Max. So, if you can’t catch it at the cinema, you’ll just have to wait a bit to watch it at home.

Don’t Worry Darling synopsis

The story centers around housewife Alice and her loving husband, Jack. The two get to live in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. But there’s a dark secret behind the project.

Here’s the official movie synopsis:

"A 1950’s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets."

The husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, while their significant others get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury, and debauchery of their community. Every resident’s needs are met by the company. In return, they ask for discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause.

But that perfection begins to crack, exposing something more sinister beneath the attractive façade. And Alice can’t help but question what exactly they’re all doing in Victory and why. The movie asks how much is she willing to lose to expose what’s really going on?

Don’t Worry Darling cast

The new movie features an ensemble cast including Florence Pugh as housewife Alice, Harry Styles plays her husband Jack, and Wilde herself stars as Mary. Chris Pine is the CEO of Victory, with Gemma Chan taking on the role of Shelley, his “elegant partner.”

Styles replaced actor Shia LaBeouf, who was fired by Wilde for poor behavior and clashing with the cast and crew, according to Variety. On a lighter note, Wilde and Styles have been dating since Jan. 2021. I guess sparks started to fly as they worked together on the film. Cute!
