Everything to know about Netflix’s Blockbuster (first look image and more!)

Netflix has a new comedy series heading our way! Blockbuster stars Fresh Off the Boat’s Randall Park and Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Melissa Fumero.

The show is based on the real-life Blockbuster business company. The provider of home movie and video game rental service became internationally known throughout the 1990s and was a staple in many American cities. It was a popular place to rent DVDs and other media before the world of streaming took over.

According to Deadline, the series was created by Vanessa Ramos. David Caspe and Jackie Clarke serve as writers and executive producers alongside Ramos. John Davis and John Fox will also executive produce. Payman Benz will direct four episodes, including the pilot.

Blockbuster synopsis

The official logline by Netflix reads:

"An ensemble comedy that takes place in the last Blockbuster Video in America, that explores what it takes – and more specifically who it takes – for a small business to succeed against all odds."

According to Deadline, the single-camera comedy series takes place in the last Blockbuster video store in America. Currently in real-life, only one franchised store remains open in Bend, Oregon in the United States.

The actors in the titular roles play Timmy and Eliza. TV Insider shares that Timmy is the store’s manager and Eliza is his trusty number two, and maybe more.

After leaving Harvard after one semester to start a family, Eliza’s life didn’t turn out the way she thought it would. As her marriage to her high school sweetheart is facing challenges, there’s a lot of uncertainty. And, despite the differences she, Timmy, and the rest of the crew have, they make a fun team.
