Spy x Family episode 4 recap

At long last, the Forger family arrives at Eden College to commence their interview.

Upon arriving, Loid, Yor, and Anya quickly realize that they’re being watched from all corners, which means they must hide their respective bad habits if they want to make a good impression on everyone, especially the Housemaster.

The family of three proceed onwards, doing various things to impress the Housemaster who seeks to find the most elegant families among the crowd. It becomes clear that their endless preparation paid off exceptionally well because the Housemaster is very much so entranced by their keen sense of refinement. So much so, that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make the family stumble by sending them random tests that are sure to make them fail.

The first test presented to the family includes a little boy who fell in dirty water. If anyone saves the boy, their clothes will be filthy, making them unable to set foot in the school. Nevertheless, Loid sacrifices the cleanliness of his and his family’s clothes to save the child. But they’ve prepared for this with an extra change of clothes.

The second test is a bit more chaotic as it is one Eden College hadn’t planned in the slightest—the release of farm animals. The animals shake up the crowd greatly, but not Yor. Our assassin knows just what pressure points to hit to cause the leader of the herd, along with the rest of the pack, to stop in place. Their valiant efforts fill the Housemaster with nothing but excitement, and with this, they are finally allowed to head to proceed to the third and final test—Eden College’s interview.

At the beginning of the interview, the family answers each question with no problem, and it seems like they’ll pass with flying colors. However, one instructor sets out to make them fail by asking them questions that are obvious traps. From asking why Yor would want to marry a man with a kid to asking the assassin why she doesn’t cook, it becomes clear that the instructor is taking jabs below the belt. But it’s his question about whether Anya would prefer her biological mother or her adoptive mother that’s the final straw for Loid.

Pissed, Loid reaches over the table, seemingly about the strike the instructor in the face. However, he redirects his fist to the table before excusing himself from the room. He comments that he must’ve chosen the wrong school if they’re willing to hurt a kid’s feelings, a comment that angers the instructor even more. Thankfully, the Housemaster puts the instructor in his place by doing what we all wanted to do at that moment—punching him square in the face.

At home, Loid takes in the gravity of the situation. Though things look grim, Yor and Anya cheer him up by telling him everything will work out in the end. But will everything be okay? We’ll have to tune in to episode 5 to find out!
