Spooky season is fast approaching! It’s time to put together a to-watch list of your favorite horror movies, and the Child’s Play movies are a must season after season! But there are so many installments in the Chucky franchise, the timelines can become confusing. Here’s how to watch the Chucky movies in order.

Don’t get me wrong, I know fans of the horror enjoy the genre year-round. But there’s something about watching these movies during spooky season that makes it so much more fun! So whether it’s been a while since you’ve seen a Child’s Play movies and you’re looking for a refresher (or you’ve never seen any of the movies), we’re here to help!

Chucky, our favorite evil doll (sorry, Annabelle!) quickly became an iconic horror figure since the first movie premiered in 1988 with Child’s Play. When it comes to haunted and evil dolls, Chucky is the first one we think about. We do love Annabelle, but Chucky walked so Annabelle could run. Not to mention, Chucky is the original here and part of what makes these movies so fun is Chucky’s humor.

The Child’s Play franchise has changed its story a few times, it started with the character Andy Barclay being the center focus. And then, Chucky and his wife, Tifanny, and later, their kids. Yep, you read that right! But it doesn’t really matter what Chucky is up to, fans are always down to watching his latest bloody adventures. There’s even a TV series on SYFY and the USA network titled Chucky, season 3 premieres just in time for the Halloween season.

How to watch the Chucky movies in order

There are a total of eight Child’s Play movies, here are the titles in order of their release dates, which is the best way to watch:

Child’s Play, Nov. 9, 1988

Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), a serial killer, is on the verge of death after being chased and shot by police. But with the help of black magic, Charles is able to transfer his soul inside a Good Guy Doll and ends up in a store. When Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) purchases this doll for her son, Andy (Alex Vincent), she never imagined the horror that would ensue, especially after Chucky decides to make Andy his next victim.

Child’s Play 2, Nov. 9, 1990

One thing to learn about Chucky, is that killing him is near impossible, no matter what you do. Child’s Play 2 takes place two years after the events from the first movie. Chucky comes back to life after a toy company attempts to recreate the doll. Chucky’s goal this time around? Revenge. Chucky is determined to find Andy, who is now living in a foster home.

Child’s Play 3, Aug. 30, 1991

Chucky returns for another round in Child’s Play 3, where a manufacturer is remaking the same line of toys using the same haunted materials. It’s like no one learns their lesson the first time. Predictably, Chucky comes back to life and, once again, is on the hunt for Andy (portrayed here by Justin Whalin).

Bride of Chucky, Oct. 16, 1998

The title says it all, Chucky finds true toxic love with Tiffany (famous portrayed by the amazing Jennifer Tilly). Tiffany is an old girlfriend of Chucky who he killed after an argument and trapped her soul into a bride doll. Still obsessed with Chucky, Tiffany performs a ritual to bring him back.

Seed of Chucky, Nov. 11, 2004

In this movie, we meet Glen (Billy Boyd), the son of Chucky and Tiffany, both of which are dead. Glen is not at all like mom and dad. In fact, he is the opposite. There’s not an evil bone in Glen’s body, but since he didn’t get to know really know his parents, Glen decides to resurrect them. When this happens, Tiffany and Chucky waste no time going on another killing spree.

Curse of Chucky, Sept. 24, 2013

Following Seed of Chucky, the evil doll finds himself in the home of Nica, a young woman who is paralyzed from the waist down. She receives Chucky as a gift and audiences begin to notice there is a connection between Chucky and the family he is now living with. Curse of Chucky is, personally, not the best in the franchise, but it is a lot of fun to watch and brings back Andy into the mix.

Cult of Chucky, Oct. 3, 2017

A resurrected Chucky returns for revenge in Cult of Chucky. This time, he is set on killing everyone who from his past, including Nica and Andy. There to help him settle the score, is Chucky’s wife/on-and-off-again girlfriend, Tiffany.

Child’s Play, June 21, 2019

Child’s Play (2019) is a movie fans of the franchise prefer to ignore. It’s a failed attempt at a reboot and follows the same story as the original, including the character of Andy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come close to the original. It also does not add anything to the franchise. So if you need to skip one of these movies, this one is it.
