Following the announcement that Hollywood was willing to take another stab at creating yet another live-action of the 2005 animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, fans of the series were initially very against the idea.

Back in June 2010, the live-action film was released in theaters all around the world. What was once something fans anticipated greatly, turned into something few acknowledge to be a part of the franchise. Not only was the film poorly made but the casting was also extremely inaccurate. So much so that many took great offense to the fact that darker-skinned characters were being played by lighter-skinned actors.

Knowing audiences didn’t appreciate the original live-action for various reasons, it’s clear why few are willing to tune into the new Netflix series. But, perhaps after reading up on who is slated to appear in the upcoming live-action series, these sentiments will change.

Read on to learn what we know so far about Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series.

Does the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series have a release date?

As of today, The Last Airbender has yet to receive an official release date. However, we may receive a date very soon because, according to What’s On Netflix, filming is slated to wrap in June 2022. After filming finishes, we’ll probably get a release date update. (Take this with a grain of salt!)

Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action synopsis

Similar to the series’ release date (and trailer), an official synopsis hasn’t been announced.

Even still, longtime fans of the show can bet that this upcoming Netflix release will tell the story of the beloved young boy named Aang who sets out to bring peace to the warring nations as the last Airbender.

The show will most certainly also showcase all the struggles he faces while on his journey, including (but not limited to) not mastering every element quickly enough, losing his companion Appa on one disastrous day, and his budding romance with Katara.

Also, with 8 hour-long episodes confirmed to be in store for the series’ first season, we’re hopeful that the upcoming title will feature even more of Aang’s journey. (Fingers crossed!)
