What is Firestarter (2022) about?

Firestarter (2022) hits theaters and Peacock just in time for Friday the 13th. It’s a fitting release date for a film based on the book by Stephen King.

The last time audiences bore witness to a live-action adaptation of the now classic novel, it was 1984 and Charlie McGee was played by the iconic Drew Barrymore. 38 years later and fans have a new young firestarter to root for in Sydney Lemmon.

This updated version of Charlie is struggling with the same conflict as Barrymore’s. She’s coming into her pyrokinesis in a way that’s proving dangerous for those around her. Though her father Andy (Zac Efron) has done what he can to give her the tools to help control her powers, his methods don’t always work.

When Charlie loses control of her abilities at school, unwanted attention finds her in the form of a government agency determined to get her back. They’ve been searching everywhere for the little firestarter and they have no intention on backing down. As such, Charlie will have to go on the run with her father and work on mastering her powers so she can defend herself.

If Charlie can’t take command of her abilities, she’ll be a pawn in a game that she and Andy want no part in. Here’s more on the film!
