Accused release updates, cast, synopsis, first look and more

Networks are rolling out their line-ups for the fall as well as releasing new programming slates for the next television season. The rosters from the big 5 broadcast networks–ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and The CW–will included fan favorites and new additions to get viewers excited for Fall TV.

Fox‘s line-up includes an anthology series by the name of Accused. The show, which takes place in and out of the court room, will introduce viewers to new protagonists each episode. The cases explored in the series will run the gamut of topics that have plagued America from school shootings to the rise of white nationalism.

The show’s perspective, however, isn’t from that of law enforcement or even the victim’s. The defendant is the audience’s protagonist, taking them on a journey through the past as the episode catches up to the show’s present where the accused is standing trial.

It’s an interesting take for a series that’ll surely hook the viewer’s attention. Here’s more on the upcoming show.

An official release date has yet to be announced for the anthology series. However, we can say that the show is expected to premiere in the 2022-2023television season. It’ll likely have a fall debut. We’ll keep you posted on an exact premiere date.

Accused synopsis

The official synopsis via Fox:

"Based on the BBC’s BAFTA-winning British crime anthology, comes a provocative series that takes you on the journey of the defendant. Each episode opens in a courtroom on the accused, with viewers knowing nothing about their crime or how they ended up on trial. Told from the defendant’s point of view through flashbacks, ACCUSED holds a mirror up to the current times with evocative and emotional stories. In ACCUSED, viewers discover how an ordinary person gets caught up in an extraordinary situation, ultimately revealing how one wrong turn leads to another, until it’s too late to turn back."

The show’s premiere will follow the Corbett family in a time of crisis. Dr. Scott Corbett (Chiklis) is a man of notoriety. He’s a successful brain surgeon with what looks to be a perfect family. But appearances aren’t everything. While Jill Corbett (Hennessy) may be willing to look the other way when it comes to their son, Hunter’s (Fegley) bad behavior, Scott is not. Especially not in the face of Hunter’s plan to launch a violent attack on his school.

Other episode topics include a comedian (Cummings) who must face the court of public opinion as well as a jury after she reports she’s been sexually assaulted. As well, a young couple (Breslin and Dee) who work together to track down a white nationalist who used his car to plow through a crowd of peaceful protestors.
