The A League of Their Own TV series is almost here!

After being inspired by the popular 1992 film of the same name, co-creators Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham are determined to bring Penny Marshall’s riveting story back to the surface for today’s generation. After all, the 1992 movie told a powerful story about how women can achieve anything and everything they put their minds to so long as they believe it, an important lesson that many still hold dear to their hearts.

Also, the film highlighted the many trials and tribulations women fought against to have the same rights and recognition as men in the baseball league. And, who could forget about the fact that A League of Their Own gave birth to a generation of women who refused to let their gender limit their dreams? Through and through, this film was an important piece of American cinema!

A reboot for the film has been long overdue, which is why we’re more than excited to tell you everything we know so far about Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming series, A League of Their Own.

A League of The Own TV series release updates

An official release date has yet to be announced for the show, however, it’s expect to premiere in summer 2022.

A League of Their Own synopsis

Similar to the 1992 movie, Prime Video’s A League of Their Own will tell the story of a team of women who have big dreams to play professional baseball.

In a world where misogyny runs rampant, the women are no strangers to the obstacles that stand in the way of their success. Nevertheless, they persist onward toward a brighter future, not only for themselves but for women in sports all over the world.

Jacobson and Graham also added that they sought to make the plot much more inclusive of all races, especially because the original movie wasn’t able to truly discuss all the nuances of equality at the time.

Jacobson told Entertainment Weekly:

"[Intersectionality] is definitely something that the movie and Penny Marshall hinted at, but we really wanted to expand it. Max’s character is based on the three [Black] women who ended up playing with men [the Negro league], which is an unbelievable story for all three of them. The more research we did and the more we expanded these characters, the more exciting it became to tell their stories with a modern lens."

Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham’s latest project is currently in production and will wrap very soon. Until then, be sure to anticipate the premiere of the series A League of Their Own streaming only on Amazon Prime Video this summer.
