Stranger Things season 4 make its premiere on Friday, May 27 with volume 1 of this two part season. The first seven episodes of the fourth season throw viewers into the aftermath of the events that unfolded in season 3. However, we don’t reunite with our favorite characters immediately after some of them have parted ways.

By the time we’re brought back into El and the gang’s lives, a few months have past. El, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Max are all in high school. It’s freshman year and what happened at the Starcourt Mall has effected them all, but it’s greatly impacted El and Max.

Remember, El lost her powers after the fight. And, no. She hasn’t gotten them back. Max lost Billy and, while their relationship was absolutely abusive, she still saw him die right in front of her. That’s a lot to handle and process on top of the world supposedly being safe once again.

But, obviously, the world isn’t safe. There’s the fact that Hopper is being held in a Russian work camp that a demogorgon also calls home.

If you’ve seen the first eight minutes of the season then you know a terrifying event happened at Hawkins Laboratory in 1979 that was triggered by Eleven. It seems to be a point in time that she doesn’t remember and for good reason, but it’s likely to come back in a horrifying way this season.

Also, you can’t just open the door to another dimension and nothing else gets out. The Mind Flayer may be done and dusted, but it’s now Vecna’s turn to rise and terrorize.

Given the fact that Stranger Things is a sci-fi horror, we’re expecting some frightening sequences. Every season the series earns its TV-14 rating. How did it do so this time? Here’s what we know!

Stranger Things season 4 age rating

Spoilers ahead of Stranger Things season 4

Season 4 is rated TV-14 for fear, language, gore, and smoking. That’s typical for this show that aims to delight its audience with its storytelling as much as it wants to give us nightmares. This season, however, is said to be darker than previous ones. The first eight minutes can attest to that fact.

As can be seen in the video, bodies lay twisted and deformed in the incident that wiped out an entire wing of children and scientists at Hawkins Laboratories. At the center of this murderous chaos looks to be El. Blood is everywhere. This first glimpse at season 4 clearly denotes the tone being set. Be prepared for body horror!

That warning also extends to our Big Bad, Vecna. While the Mind Flayer had been a gargantuan spider-esque creature that made viewers’ skin crawl, this season’s villain might make you wretch. He’s a skinless being, whose muscles are on display in the creepiest and slimiest way possible.
