Where was the movie Elvis filmed?

From brilliant performances to a great featured soundtrack, critics and fans have been praising  Elvis, now playing in theaters. We have already shared our thoughts on what we loved (and didn’t) about the movie, as well as put together a quick list of the soundtrack. Up next? Let’s discuss where the filming of the movie Elvis took place.

As lovely as the setting of a story (in both movies and series) is, when it comes to the true filming location, it’s often very, very different. In fact, Atlanta, New York, and various places in Canada are the most popular filming locations. Whatever you may be watching, chances are, it was at least partially filmed in one of these three places.

The biopic follows the King of Rock and Roll, sharing the story of the many ups and downs of Elvis Presley. In the movie, we see beautiful backdrops and historic spots. Was it all part of a huge set in Atlanta? Did the cast and crew travel overseas and didn’t stay in the U.S. at all? Let’s find out!

Elvis movie filming locations

Catherine Martin (producer, co-costume creator, and production designer) shares that she was able to visit the famous Memphis mansion. There, Martin got a close-up look at some of Elvis’ clothing, as well as his parents’. But did any of the filming happen in the home? What about the town Elvis grew up in? Unfortunately, no.

On the screen, we see Memphis, Las Vegas, among many other locations — but the movie was filmed entirely in Queensland, Australia. What did I tell you? This is, sadly, often the case.

Now, this isn’t to say it wasn’t well done. The crew actually did a tremendous job, but I will always appreciate authentic locations over film sets.
