There’s nothing like a rush of adrenaline to get you all hyped and oh so stressed! But hey, sometimes we need to feel this rush, especially when our days aren’t too exciting. Action movies increased in popularity during the early months of the pandemic, and it’s easy to see why. We were all stuck at home bored, we needed to see someone else running around saving the day. That said, kidnapping movies were even more popular, and they seem to always be. I mean, who doesn’t want to be the hero?

As we all head closer to the weekend, why not prepare a list of some of the best kidnapping movies? If you’re not going out this weekend (and who even wants to when it is so hot outside?), why not invite action and adventure into your home via one of the kidnapping movies we highlight, below.

Now, if you came here expecting to find only boy-saves-girl features, turn back around. We sprinkle a good mix of kidnapping movies so there’s something for everyone.

7 kidnapping movies to stream for an adrenaline rush

Taken

These movies are all in random order, but we would be silly not to name Taken first as probably the most popular movie about a kidnapping ever. We all know the line “I don’t know who you are…but I will find you” or how about the line, “a very particular set of skills”? Classics. Liam Neeson does what he does best, save people, be the hero. Stream Taken on Hulu, Prime Video, Tubi, or The Roku Channel.

Man on Fire

This one is a personal favorite! A young Dakota Fanning plays Lupita, a girl who is kidnapped in Mexico City.  It’s up to John Creasy, a former CIA operative and Lupita’s guard, to find and save her. Man on Fire features one of Denzel Washington’s best performances. The movie is impactful and emotional. Stream it free on Tubi.

Gone Girl

Gone Girl is about a woman who kidnaps herself to prove a point. What? That’s essentially it and I love every minute of it! Rosamund Pike is incredible here and you truly feel her anger and passion. If you haven’t watched it, you’re missing out! Unfortunately, the movie isn’t available on any streaming platform. To watch, you’ll have to rent it on VOD.

Trolls

I told you I would be including a little bit of everything on this list! Yes, even animated features for families. In Trolls, Anna Kendrick voices Poppy, a happy troll who jumps to the rescue after her friends are kidnapped the very unhappy Bergens. Trolls is not available free on any service, but you can rent it on Prime Video for just under $2.

Kidnap

The movie Kidnap, starring Halle Berry, is also not available to stream for free on any platform, but you can check it out on VOD for a low price. In Kindnap, Berry plays a mother who chases after the men who kidnapped her child, and the police is not very much help.

Deep End of the Ocean

Another film that isn’t available to stream is The Deep End of the Ocean, and what a shame because this is such a good movie. I’ve watched it many times. And being an older film, it should be streaming somewhere. The only way to watch is to buy the movie or rent it.

Room

The movie Room moved me to tears! It’s a very emotional movie. Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay share great chemistry. You can stream it on Showtime or rent it via VOD.
