Whether you’re a part of the thousands who love Friends or the few who didn’t like it, there’s absolutely no doubt it was and still is a phenomenon. The ’90s comedy did something that perfected the sitcom formula!

Today, it still has a very loyal fanbase, the actors are still asked about the series, and it’s just a show you love to rewatch over and over again. Even if it’s just on in the background. It’s also managed to gain fans of this generation. The stories and comedy are still relevant to today’s audience.

A big part of that success was due to the brilliant ensemble cast who brought the characters and show to life. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross are household names that I don’t think will ever go away!

It’s known that the cast sometimes improvised their lines, especially Matthew Perry. And, at other times, they brought in their own ideas.

David Schwimmer came up with “It tastes like feet” line on Friends

Friends was known for its special holiday episodes, many of which included the group of six enjoying Thanksgiving together. One of the most iconic (and one of my favorite!) of the holiday episodes is “The One Where Ross Got High.” This was season 6, episode 9.

Monica hosts Thanksgiving and Chandler uses the opportunity to learn why her parents don’t like him. This is his chance to win them over. The episode also sees Rachel making a trifle, which doesn’t go as planned.

Of course we all remember the infamous dessert that included Rachel’s hard work of multiple layers: custard (which she made from scratch), raspberries, Ladyfingers, and… beef sautéed with peas and onions. It sounds like the perfect dessert, right!?

Everybody around the table takes a taste and tries to hide how bad it is. And, when Ross has to eat up his plate and Rachel is out of earshot, he says the famous line to Joey: “it tastes like feet.”

Turns out the Ross actor himself, David Schwimmer, is the one who came up with the hilarious line! According to TheThings, Friends executive producer Greg Malins said, “that was one-thousand percent David Schwimmer’s idea, and it was super, super funny. I laughed right then when he pitched it.”

It was certainly an amusing moment! And, perhaps the biggest laugh out loud part is the biggest foodie’s reaction to it. After all, the sweet and meaty ingredients are all good – at least according to Joey!
