On July 15, HBO and HBO Max will debut a new comedy series from Nathan Fielder, The Rehearsal. What is the new series about and how is it different from Fielder’s other hit comedy, Nathan for You? Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the premiere.

Nathan Fielder is bringing awkward TV back with HBO’s The Rehearsal. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, the comedy series has a very fresh score of 88%. Having watched five of the six episodes, I can confirm that it’s a series worth watching. If you enjoyed Nathan For You, you’re going to love The Rehearsal.

The unpredictability and awkwardness Nathan is known for reaches new levels in the series as Nathan acquires a noticeably bigger budget and goes through extreme lengths to keep audiences entertain and with plenty of second hand embarrassment. But what is The Rehearsal about, exactly?

What is The Rehearsal on HBO about?

HBO describes The Rehearsal as a series that will explore Nathan helping others prepare for a difficult or life-changing decision. How will Nathan do this? With rehearsals! As many rehearsals as it takes and Nathan is sparing no expense. There’s a construction crew at the ready to build a replica of any setting, actors to help make the rehearsal realistic, and just about anything you can think of.

Still confused? In the first episode, Nathan will be helping a trivia-enthusiast come clean about a lie. To help ensure that this confession goes smoothly, Nathan is willing to do anything, and each rehearsal goes better than the next!

When is The Rehearsal coming out on HBO?

The new series will be following a weekly format, so one episode will premiere on HBO each Friday night. On Friday, July 15, episode 1, titled “Orange Juice, No Pulp,” airs on HBO at 11 p.m. ET and will run for about 45 minutes. Episode 1, and all episodes after it, will also become available to stream on HBO Max at the same time.
