Is Freema Ayeman going to be in New Amsterdam Season 5?

New Amsterdam Season 5 is the final season, and we need more Sharpwin. Is that going to be possible? Will Freema Agyeman return to the series?

If there is one thing we need in the final season of New Amsterdam, it’s more Sharpwin. From the very beginning of the series, there’s been this will-they-won’t-they storyline. Well, okay, that picked up more in the second season after Georgia’s traumatic death.

Things seemed to be going in the right direction in Season 4. The two got together and started planning their wedding. There was a question of whether Max would stay in New York or go to London, but they found a way to make things work. And then the Season 4 finale hit us with some disappointing news.

Helen didn’t get on the plane to New York for her wedding. She’s staying in London, but we had hoped things would work out for the couple in the fifth season. What is going to happen?

Freema Agyeman is not returning in New Amsterdam Season 5

TVLine brought us the devastating news about Freema Agyeman not coming back for the fifth and final season. This is not a “creative” decision to write her out. Instead, Agyeman has decided that she doesn’t want to return for the fifth season due to other projects. She recently started shooting Dreamland with Lily Allen and there is likely to be a schedule clash.

The door is open for her to return, though. This could mean a cameo in the series finale. We certainly hope for that, especially as we were promised more Sharpwin in New Amsterdam Season 5. How is that going to be possible without the lead actress?

How could the series even wrap up in a positive way for Sharpwin? Will Max decide in the series finale to leave New York behind and go to London? Could we get a cameo at the end to see the two happily together? This is not the final season we envisioned!

I do wish Agyeman the best with her new projects. At the end of the day, this is work for her, and she needs to do what makes her happy. As a fan of the series from the beginning, though, I’m just disappointed we’ll have 13 episodes without Helen.
