Last night’s episode of Big Brother season 24 was a thrill to watch, as it showed us that these houseguests are here to play the game, even if doing so means making last-minute cutthroat decisions.

Initially, these competitors wanted to send Taylor Hale packing for good. However, after Joe “Pooch” Pucciarelli began exhibiting somewhat cocky behavior and made the rookie mistake of offering himself as a pawn, HOH Jasmine Davis decided to switch gears and take out a threat that may become a problem later on in the game. Even still, with how much Hale has been frustrating the likes of Ameerah Jones, Daniel Durston, and more houseguests, it became clear that both Hale and Pucciarelli’s games were in jeopardy; either one of them could go home and the house would be perfectly fine with it.

So, who was the first (official) evictee of Big Brother season 24? Read on to find out.

Unfortunately, Joe “Pooch” Pucciarelli was the player the house unanimously (12-0) decided it was time to send home. Our beauty pageant queen, Taylor Hale, lives to fight another day.

What was Joe “Pooch” Pucciarelli’s grave mistake?

Aside from being overly confident and offering himself as a pawn, it was Pucciarelli not aligning himself with the right people that was his greatest misstep in the end.

Pucciarelli was blindly loyal to the men’s alliance, “The Oasis”, during a week when the women ran the house. His game strategy didn’t go beyond pitching himself as a pawn to the women, hence why he did little to nothing to put himself in a better position with the Girls’ Girls alliance nor did he double-check his safety with anyone (even the HOH!). Instead, he ignored the shifting dynamics of the house. By the time he caught on to the fact that something fishy was going on, it was too late.

Hopefully, Pucciarelli’s exit serves as a reminder to the houseguests that you can never be too comfortable in the Big Brother house. Alliances are always forming, people are always talking—the only way to secure one’s spot in the house for another week is to win HOH. And with that said, we wonder how Matt “Turner” Turner is going to use his HOH to further his position in the game!
