Big Sky will be back this fall on ABC, and the network has given the series a new name headed into the third season! The show is now subtitled Big Sky: Deadly Trails.

In the season 2 finale, “Catch a Few Fish,” we met Jensen Ackles as Sheriff Beau Arlen. The new sheriff helped Jenny track down Travis Stone. Also last season, Cassie got a startling surprise from Scarlett, which changed the course of her quest for justice forever. And, Ren and Jag finally came to a conclusion regarding their father, Veer.

The new season is fast approaching! Here’s everything we know ahead of its premiere.

Big Sky season 3 release date

The crime drama thriller is moving away from Thursdays and getting a new night. The series is set to return on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

Big Sky season 3 synopsis

According to TVLine, season 3 sees private detective Cassie Dewell, undersheriff Jenny Hoyt, and newly appointed sheriff Beau Arlen are successful in maintaining order in Helena, Montana. But when a local backcountry trip led by Sunny Barnes goes awry, the trio faces their most formidable mystery yet. No camper can be trusted and danger lurks around every jagged rock and gnarled tree.

Big Sky season 3 cast

Big Sky is getting a big addition to its cast! Reba McEntire has joined the show as a series regular. She will play Sunny Barnes, a successful backcountry outfitter whose customers often go missing, according to Parade.

TVLine reports the following cast members are returning:

  • Kylie Bunbury as Cassie Dewell
  • Katheryn Winnick as Jenny Hoyt
  • Jensen Ackles as Beau Arlen (promoted to series regular)
  • Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Tonya (promoted to series regular)
  • J. Anthony Pena as Mo Poppernak (promoted to series regular)

New cast members:

  • Reba McEntire as Sunny Barnes
  • Luke Mitchell as Sunny’s son Cormac
  • Henry Ian Cusick as tech executive Avery
  • Anirudh Pisharody and Madalyn Horche as a young couple from New York
  • Seth Gabel as Walter, a recluse who lives in the Montana wilderness
