In all of Big Brother history, there has never been a twist as epic as the Split House twist!

Prior to this massive shake-up, the Leftovers alliance took over the game. The seven-person group positioned themselves in a way where all they had to do for the next couple of weeks was steamroll whoever wasn’t in their alliance—Jasmine Davis, Terrance Higgins, and Alyssa Snider. But now, all that is out the window, as last night, Julie Chen announced that this season’s game will change as the houseguests (and ourselves) know it.

Here’s how the new Split House twist of Big Brother season 24 works.

Big Brother’s Split House twist explained

As per Chen, the Split House twist divides the house into two separate groups, meaning that the two groups—Big Brochella and Dyre Festival—still play the game of Big Brother as per usual, however, the twist now required them to play two separate games simultaneously for the remainder of the week.

As seen during last night’s episode, two HOHs—Michael Bruner and Terrance Higgins—were crowned. Bruner got to pick who he wanted in his Big Brochella group, and Higgins did the same for his Dyre Festival group. Needless to say, each HOH had to pick at least one person they want to send home. By the end of the week, one houseguest from each side will be evicted, hence why next Thursday will be a double eviction.

Regarding the logistics of the twist, houseguests belonging to the Big Brochella group stay inside the lavish house, full of food, shelter, and water. On the other hand, players belonging to the Dyre Festival group stay outside. Of course, the second group still has access to bare necessities, but they have to rough it out with the bare minimum.

How will the Split House twist affect the Big Brother game?

Depending on who is on what side, the Split House twist can affect the game dramatically.

With Higgins as HOH, he can decide to either get out the same people that put him on the block weeks ago or decide to finally put up a bigger threat in the competition. As for Bruner, he can either choose to stay loyal to the Leftovers alliance or he can finally take the first shot at his own alliance. It’s possible we may have to say goodbye to at least one Leftovers member. However, it’s also possible Higgins will do the major alliance’s bidding and send out someone else. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but for right now, no one, except for the HOHs, is safe.

What’s more, with only two people allowed to vote out one houseguest on the block, votes are far more important than before, meaning there can be no sympathy vote, or else one of the HOHs will have to break the tie, and thus, get blood on their hands. (Perhaps the non-HOHs can figure out a way to manipulate the twist in their favor.)

All in all, the Split House twist is sure to be one of the most exciting shakeups of the summer, so be sure to see it all play out when Big Brother season 24 airs on Sunday (8:00 p.m. ET), Wednesday (8:00 p.m. ET), and Thursday (9:00 p.m. ET) night on on CBS.
