The Nun 2 release date, cast, synopsis and more

Updated: July 6, 2023 – We have entered summer’s horror season! Halloween won’t be too far behind as horror movies begin to premiere in theaters (and on streaming) to get us ready for some scares. So, while The Nun 2 is not one of the movies we’ll be enjoying during summer’s thrills, we will be seeing it soon. When is The Nun 2 coming out? Here is everything we know about the movie so far.

After a long wait, a release date has finally been announced for the Nun sequel. The original movie premiered in 2018, and while critics didn’t give it great reviews, audiences loved it and happily welcome the movie to the growing Conjuring universe.

The Nun 2 release date

We no longer have to wait or predict a date, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially shared the release date for The Nun 2, Sept. 8, 2023. I know what you’re thinking, that’s still awhile off! But at least we know the movie will be here in time for Halloween season.

The Nun 2 cast

Taissa Farmiga returns to the horror franchise as Sister Irene, while Bonnie Aarons is back as Valak. Jonas Bloquet will play Irene’s possessed friend, Maurice. Storm Reid has joined the franchise as a young novitiate who is weighing whether she wants to take her vows. She’ll be pulled into the mission to stop Maurice with Irene. The rest of the cast has not yet been announced, but we’ll keep you posted! The movie will see Michael Chavez back as director.

The Nun 2 synopsis

According to Collider, the sequel takes place in France over the year 1956. Evil is spreading in a small town after the violent murder of a priest. Sister Irene must once again confront the demonic force known as Valak.

The Nun 2 first look

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at the film. The image, which you can see here, shows Irene surrounded by faceless nuns. According to Chavez, they’ll be serving an important role in the sequel.

"The faceless nuns are back. That was a fan favorite and also became part of the marketing campaign of the first film. So they’re definitely back in the film. I don’t want to spoil anything else [about them]."

The movie will also connect to the wider The Conjuring universe and will feature easter eggs shown throughout. As soon as more details about the upcoming film surface, we’ll update this post so you are up to date on the latest!

The Nun 2 joins the growing Conjuring franchise, which includes The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring 2 (2016), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Nun (2018), and many others. And The Nun sequel isn’t the only movie from this horror series we’re looking forward to, there’s also The Crooked Man, which doesn’t have a release date at the time of this writing.
