Quantum Leap made its debut on Monday, Sept. 19. The new NBC series has joined the roster of reboots that have filled our entertainment lives for years now. This one has a bit of a twist because the show isn’t starting from scratch.

Dr. Sam Beckett is a known figure in the show, he’s just currently not in it. The new team working with the accelerator is led by Dr. Ben Song…or at least it was. By the time they catch up to him in the past, he’s lost his memories. He never told them why he went on an unauthorized mission and now they have to help him piece together his plan which is a mystery to all of them.

This reboot series is a thrill ride that’ll have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out Ben’s impulse to do what he did as he learns how to move through time, help others, and remember the life he had before everything took a turn.

Do, however, expect a bit of heartache though. Without his memories, Ben isn’t the man this team knew, at least not entirely. He’s missing some key information that would change his life again if he knew it. But recovering a person’s memories can be tricky and so can their response to who they used to be, care about, and love.

Here’s more on the series including the official summary and who’s in the cast of the show!

Quantum Leap synopsis

The official synopsis via NBC:

"It’s been nearly 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now, a new team, led by physicist Ben Song, has been assembled to restart the project in hope of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it.Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. At Ben’s side throughout his leaps is Addison, who appears in the form of a hologram only Ben can see and hear. She’s a decorated Army veteran who brings level-headed precision to her job.At the helm of the highly confidential operation is Herbert “Magic” Williams, a no-nonsense career military man who has to answer to his bosses who won’t be happy once they learn about the breach of protocol. The rest of the team at headquarters includes Ian Wright, who runs the Artificial Intelligence unit “Ziggy,” and Jenn Chou, who heads up digital security for the project. As Ben leaps from life to life, putting right what once went wrong, it becomes clear that he and the team are on a thrilling journey. However, Addison, Magic, Ian and Jenn know that if they are going to solve the mystery of Ben’s leaps and bring him home, they must act fast or lose him forever."
