Today’s episode of The Bold and the Beautiful was more subdued than the previous ones that have aired this week. Though that’s understandable considering Child Protective Services were able to assess that Douglas is perfectly safe at Forrester Mansion which everyone but Brooke and Liam seem to know.

The big question this piece of the custody struggle storyline has left to answer is who called CPS. Last episode, Brooke was looking both guilty and nervous as she spoke to Hope and Liam once again about the “incident” with Thomas and the knife. Hope made her position clear on the custody situation, she doesn’t want things to escalate and she trusts that Thomas is taking care of their son.

This didn’t stop both her husband and her mother from insisting that her child’s father is unfit to have custody of him but nonetheless Hope held strong to her conviction. Of course, we knew already that the situation had been escalated, but Brooke wasn’t informed of CPS’ presence at Forrester Mansion until the end of yesterday’s episode.  How did she react today? Here’s what happened!

The Bold and the Beautiful recap (Sept. 29)

To Ridge’s relief, when he asked her if she called CPS on his son, she said, “No.” That’s all he needed to hear. He didn’t ask any more questions, he simply took her at her word. Thomas, however, wasn’t willing to accept Brooke’s answer.

If The Bold and the Beautiful writers weren’t leaving the audience to wonder if Brooke really did call the authorities, we wouldn’t be questioning Thomas’ reaction. She is, after all, the only person to threaten to contact CPS. But, Thomas’ plan to find out who really called was awfully convenient and some rather quick thinking on his part.

Not only did he bring up the fact that complaints of this nature are usually recorded, he also immediately had a person in mind who they could get in touch with to ensure they could hear the recorded call.

We don’t know about you, but in the aftermath of a highly distressing event like a CPS house visit, our minds certainly wouldn’t be on a former employee who coincidentally not only works for the department but who also has access to call recordings. But Ridge went along with Thomas’ plan so he could get to the bottom of who attacked his family.

Meanwhile at Logan Manor, Brooke was being cagey in a conversation with Liam. She didn’t immediately tell her son-in-law about CPS dropping by Forrester Mansion which is highly unlike her. If it was such a surprise to her, then why wasn’t she inquiring about who made the call.

Granted, Brooke did say she was processing but she didn’t ask Ridge any questions about the incident while on the phone with him. In fact, she didn’t seem like she was going to be digging into what happened at all. It was Liam who wondered about the person behind the call while Brooke gave a rather unconvincing ‘I don’t know who could have done it’ shrug. Still, she did tell Ridge she didn’t do it, so we’ll have to see how long that holds.

Completely out of the loop this episode were Steffy and Taylor. While Ridge, Thomas, Brooke, and Liam were discussing CPS and Douglas, the mother-daughter pair were talking about Taylor’s shifting position on fighting for her ex-husband.

Ever since she came back, Taylor has been courting the idea that she and Ridge could rekindle what they had. With that hope has come a lot of ups and downs where it seems like he’s coming back to her only for the rug to get pulled out from under her feet.

Taylor expressed to Steffy that she’s tired of the back and forth not to mention she doesn’t like the person she’s become in this fight. Essentially, she and Brooke have switched places. Now her rival is married to Ridge with another woman vying for her husband’s affections, attention, and a life with him. As Taylor put it, there’s some karmic retribution in how things have unfolded, but it’s still not right.

Steffy, however, isn’t ready for her mom to give up the fight even if she is going to support her in whatever decision she makes regarding this tug of war over her father. The two also shared a sweet moment about Ridge’s proposal to Taylor, but it was sad when Taylor mentioned that at that time she was the only woman in his life. Obviously, that’s not the case now.

At this point, the ball really is in Ridge’s court. There isn’t anything Taylor can do about him being in love with her but married to Brooke. She told her daughter that she’s not a consolation prize, and she doesn’t want Ridge to come running to her again because things aren’t working out with Brooke.

It’s a cyclical pattern. Brooke messes up, Ridge gets hurt and runs to Taylor, and then he eventually goes back to his wife. Taylor doesn’t want that for her life anymore especially when it comes to a man she’s been in love with for over 30 years.

Recognizing her mother’s heartache and acknowledging her desire to get out of town, Steffy offers to take her mom to Aspen. She’d received a call from Bill in the middle of their talk. He let her know that he’s selling his property in Aspen and wanted to extend the offer to her first. Cue an impromptu suggestion from Steffy that she and her mom pack up and go for a bit.

It’s important to note that Aspen is where Ridge asked Taylor to marry him. It wasn’t a coincidence that that particular memory was pulled out of the vault for the audience. And, considering the CPS officer Walter Barnes played the call for Thomas and Ridge where it was clearly Brooke’s voice lodging the complaint, we suspect that Ridge and Taylor will be having a scene where he first proposed. If not, to quote Liam and Hope from their 2010s era, “We’ve been robbed!”

We’ll end this recap by once again addressing our concern that it may have been Thomas who made the call. We hope not but Brooke’s voice was sounding rather robotic on that recording and we know there was a voice manipulator introduced into the plot weeks ago. Thomas could have used his son’s device or his son could have used it. We haven’t ruled Douglas out of this whodunit storyline.

Until next time, Bold fans. Stay beautiful.
