The fall season is officially underway with the past several weeks bringing with it the premieres of countless returning favorites and the first episodes of this year’s newest originals series. As in past years, there are a lot of great new additions to enjoy this fall from the top broadcasters including The Rookie: Feds, Quantum Leap and So Help Me Todd.

With so many shows competing for your attention, it can be hard to determine which new series are worth the time and which you should skip. While this year’s class of freshman programs is shaping up to be a strong one, there’s one show that has quickly pushed past its competitors to emerge as the season’s must-see newcomer.

If you’re looking to dive into a new series this fall, try checking out So Help Me Todd which is not only an amazingly fun series but the fall’s best new show.

What is So Help Me Todd about?

Before diving into why you should be watching So Help Me Toddlet’s first take a look at the show to provide some background on what you can expect from CBS’s newest original drama.

At the center of the show is Todd Wright, the black sheep of a successful family who has fallen on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law led to the revoking of his private detective license. When we first meet him in the series premiere, Todd is on the outs with his family with a clear rift between him and his mother, Margaret, a razor-sharp and meticulous attorney.

After helping his mother on a case, Margaret finally begins to see how incredible Todd is at his job, Much to her surprise, shes’ actually impressed by – and proud of – Todd’s outside-the-box thinking and tech-savvy skills.

Following their partnership on the case, Margaret offers Todd a job at her firm which he reluctantly accepts in seeing the opportunity it will provide for him to finally get back to what he loves doing. It also marks a major first step toward the pair mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship and could prove to finally allow the pair to get a better understanding of one another.

As for whether Todd and Margaret will be able to accept each other for who they are? Well, that remains to be seen but fortunately, we’ve got a long journey ahead for the pair — one we’re certain is sure to have some unexpected curves, but that’s all part of the fun of the show!

Is So Help Me Todd worth watching?

If you’re on the fence about So Help Me Todd, we’re here to tell you it’s time to put those doubts to rest and dive right into CBS’s new series which is wildly charming and a must-see!

The series is unlike anything currently on the airwaves, putting a fun and fresh spin on the legal drama with family at the forefront in a way we haven’t seen before. Like most strong legal dramas, the show has proven it can deliver unique cases that will have viewers and engaged throughout the episode. And it’s going to be amazing to get to dive into those dynamics via the case of the week format.

While it was made clear in the pilot episode that the show won’t stray away from the usual who-dun-its and plotlines fans have come to expect in legal dramas, what makes the show stand out it is its compelling leads: the quick-thinking and lovable Todd and his razor-sharp, yet not-so-tech-savvy mom Margaret, played to perfection by Skylar Astin and Marcia Gay Harden.

The chemistry between Astin and Harden is truly unmatched! The scenes the pair share across the pilot episode are some of the episode’s brightest moments as the pair are truly magnetic and have a way of complimenting one another in an astonishing way. It’s clear Astin and Harden are the heart of the show, which is fitting given the mother-son relationship is going to be an integral part of the series moving forward.

What makes Astin and Harden’s performances stand out is the stunning range they display across the episode. From light-hearted and comedic moments such as when Astin’s Todd explained how email works to his mom via a quirky one-off, to the raw and emotionally charged scenes such as the family dinner where Astin delivers a moving monologue, when Astin and Harden are together their chemistry is truly magical.
