Destiny looks like it’s about to change on The Bold and the Beautiful. Today’s episode saw the groundwork being laid for two potential shifts in the big romances on the soap. Front and center this week is the Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle that’s been simmering since Taylor came home to Los Angeles.

This “Who will Ridge choose?” storyline has taken us up, down, and around through a drunken kiss between Deacon and Brooke on New Year’s Eve, a rekindling of feelings for Taylor and Ridge in Monaco thanks to their own kiss, and a call to Child Protective Services that could spell the end of Brooke and Ridge’s marriage.

The plot surrounding this trio is coming to a head, but theirs isn’t the only triangle I have my eye on. Considering the looks Hope was giving Thomas this episode, and the amount of time she’s been spending at Forrester Mansion, Liam may want to stop worrying so much about what Thomas is up to and start concerning himself with why his wife seems to be incapable of untangling her life from his rival.

Here’s what happened today.

The Bold and the Beautiful recap (Oct. 4)

Brooke and Liam, aka the two people closest to Hope who are actively and loudly anti-Thomas, had yet another conversation about how dangerous they think Douglas’ father is. The two seem to think they’re the Thomas whisperers since they refuse to believe the man has changed at all and everyone else is wrong to believe in him.

Though, to be fair to Liam, Brooke wasn’t all the way truthful with him when she told him that Hope went to Forrest Creations. When she left Logan Manor, Hope said she was going to the office to check on Thomas because she was concerned about the call to CPS and how that made him and Douglas feel.

The way Brooke relayed her daughter’s whereabouts, it was as if Hope went to work with no set task that she meant to accomplish. As such, when Liam called to check to see what Hope was up to, he got suspicious about her being in the office with Thomas. I should note, he didn’t call his wife to check on her, he called the front desk. We’ve now arrived at the point where Liam seems to be keeping tabs on his wife instead of talking to her directly. Yikes.

Had Liam known Hope went to see Thomas, we may not have gotten a conversation with his poorly thought out theory that Douglas’ father is somehow keeping Hope around for longer than he should be. It appears that Hope’s been spending more time at the office lately and she’s started bringing Beth over to Forrester Mansion for visits.

Brooke even referred to them as a “little family” and was adamant that Thomas not continue to get what he wants. So far, however, the only thing Thomas has said he wants is residential custody of his son. Even when he told Hope earlier in this storyline that he’d prefer to be raising Douglas with her in one household together, he didn’t push the issue. Nor did he say anything she didn’t already know.

Liam might want to hurry up and schedule his own romantic night with Hope because it looks like her eye is beginning to wander. Literally. She walked in on Thomas removing his shirt after he spilled coffee on it. And, while she did make a valiant attempt to look away as he was changing into a new one, she still couldn’t keep herself from peeking just a bit.

This moment on top of all the time the two have been spending together off-screen, their shared “Romeo & Juliet” joke, and Hope’s defense of Thomas to Brooke and Liam has me sitting up and paying attention. While nothing may come of this potential torch that Hope might be starting to carry for Thomas, it’s going to be fun watching Liam catch on to the fact that his rival may have a chance with Hope after all.

His rude awakening, however, is going to have to wait because Brooke is up first. She’s still going on with her planned dinner with Ridge, but a pine cone might have thwarted her efforts today. After Ridge told his son that Brooke lied to his face about the CPS call, he went back to Forrester Mansion to contemplate his “destiny.”

That term has always been used in reference to his relationship with Brooke, but it was interesting that when he invoked the word it triggered a flashback sequence that started with Taylor and then shifted to Brooke. He was unsure of what direction to take with his life and then a pine cone fell from a nearby tree. Who’s also surrounded by pine cones? Taylor!

She and Steffy landed in Aspen in today’s episode. The plane ride there consisted of Taylor expressing that she wants to move on and her daughter insisting that she not give up hope. The sentiment was the same in the cabin, though we did get a brief cameo from Othello R. Clark who drove the pair to the location.

Judging by the smile on Ridge’s face when he held the pine cone in his hand, we suspect he’s about to hop on a plane and make his way to Taylor. If he does, that’s the second romantic night Brooke planned that he’ll miss. Also, if he does choose his ex-wife, I do wonder if the CPS call will come back into play.

The whodunit storyline may have been put on the back burner, but Brooke has yet to confess to making the call. She also doesn’t know that Ridge heard her on the recording. Until that comes to light, there’s still room for this story to twist once more.

Until next time, Bold fans, stay beautiful!
