Is The Disappearance of Cari Farver based on a true story?

Yes, the movie is based on the real life story of Cari Farver and A Tangled Web by Leslie Rule which focused on her disappearance and subsequent case.

According to Distractify, Farver disappeared on November 13, 2012. She’d been in a casual relationship with Dave Kroupa. They both were single parents who enjoyed each other’s company and weren’t looking for a serious commitment.

Cari and Dave had been dating for about two weeks before she disappeared. But he was haunted by her disappearance for four years due to the disturbing texts he was receiving from her phone. He wasn’t alone in this. Her mother, her teenage son, and Liz, the other woman Dave was seeing also received messages.

What wasn’t apparent was what really happened to Cari that night and who was harassing the people in her and Dave’s lives by assuming her identity. While we won’t reveal who was behind this years long scheme so we don’t spoil the movie for you, the full story can be read on Distractify.
