Due to The Bold and the Beautiful being preempted on Thursday, Oct. 13, we didn’t get what may have been a game changing Friday episode. But progress was made on the soap amidst Brooke’s heartbreak, Bill’s pleading for Katie to come back to him, and Steffy beating feet out of Aspen to give her parents some alone time.

We even got an answer for why Othello was looking through the trees like a creeper as Ridge ended his marriage to Brooke. I should note, however, that the progress made on today’s episode was rather predictable. Nearly every character embraced their worst traits and shortcomings which means the drama that’s simmering on the back burner is going to be explosive at some point.

But for now, we’ll have to remain content with the happiness radiating from Taylor now that she and Ridge are back to expressing their love with more than words even if we know that happiness isn’t likely to last much longer. Here’s what happened on The Bold and the Beautiful today.

Bold and the Beautiful recap (Oct. 14)

Basking in the joy of her parents’ reunion, Steffy regaled them with her own elation that her father had finally come to his senses. The fact that she and Taylor missed Ridge’s conflicted feelings isn’t surprising. Thomas was less oblivious on the phone when his dad called to speak to him alone, but he, too, pushed for Ridge to move on from Brooke and focus on Taylor.

To be honest, none of them should be working this hard to get Ridge’s mind off his maybe soon-to-be ex-wife, but that’s par for the course on this soap. Though that’s not to say Steffy cutely setting a romantic scene for her parents’ first night back together wasn’t a sweet nod to how much she loves love and just wants them to be able to have everything they deserve. A candle lit room as a parting gift is definitely on brand for her.

Unfortunately, it’s also on brand for Thomas to be manipulating a situation to his favor which is exactly how this reunion even happened. I very much believe Ridge can make his own decisions and should be held accountable for walking away from Taylor if he chooses to do so once Thomas’ scheming comes to light. But it’s also true that his son influenced his decision making and that’s not okay.

How Thomas plans to keep the lie that Brooke called CPS going without his father or himself giving it away is anyone’s guess, but this whole storyline is incredibly messy. He’s the catalyst for the end of Brooke and Ridge’s marriage and his parents’ reunion.

Brooke doesn’t know why she’s been left by the love of her life, but she’s not going to let this go. Don’t let the plane ride home in tears fool you. The Logan is certainly licking her wounds right now, but this is nowhere near over for her. She will, however, take Bill up on consoling her. Brooke Logan would never pass up being comforted let alone when the comfort is being offered by one of the men she still has on the hook.

Today, Bill swore to Katie that his sole focus is her. All he wanted was to be reunited and be a family again. He tried to convince her that he’s through with hurting her, but Katie asked him two very pointed questions that he neglected to answer sufficiently. First, he sidestepped her inquiry into who she is to him if Brooke is the love of his life. Then she asked if he’d even be pursuing her if Brooke were available.

Instead of going around in circles, Katie told Bill that despite wanting a life with him, she’s can’t live with knowing he loves her sister. And, without making a scene or shedding a tear, she left Bill at the restaurant to finish dining alone. It would have been a power move had her follow-up scene not been her in the office talking to Carter about Bill wanting her back.

Hopefully, Katie goes with her gut and doesn’t give into Bill’s earlier request. Only heartbreak is waiting down that road considering her ex-husband proved her right today. After Othello told him about spying Brooke being left by Ridge and the Forrester looking quite cozy and happy in the house with Taylor and Steffy, Bill could have called Katie to go be with her sister. Instead he carried himself over to Logan Manor because he told Brooke he’d always be there for her.

Bold fans, I rolled my eyes. If there’s one thing Bill is, it’s predictable. If given the opportunity to go back on his word to Katie, he’ll do it especially where Brooke is involved. Just like she’d fully accept his comfort even though she knows he’s been sniffing around her sister again. Katie can’t trust these two and she needs to remember that truth. Just like Taylor needs to remember her history with Ridge.

Taylor’s deliriously happy and it’s beautiful to see but, as a viewer, I know the clock is ticking toward a reveal that’s going to hurt her deeply. So as pretty as her candle lit love scene with Ridge was, the joy she’s experiencing is going to have an expiration date.

She and her soulmate are reacquainting themselves with each other’s bodies, relearning what pleases the other, and connecting on a physical level just like they do emotionally. Taylor missed that Ridge had a lot on his mind, but we didn’t. For as happy as he is when she’s got her eyes on him, when she looks away, he’s contemplative and lost to his thoughts.

I’m not going to naysay a future for Taylor and Ridge after this storyline, but nothing about what’s set to happen next is going to be easy. The first major test of their relationship could be Ridge once again torn between his two great loves once he finds out what Thomas did. It’d be refreshing for him to choose his best friend despite what happened, but that’s not a bet I’d be comfortable making any time soon.

Until next time, Bold fans. Stay beautiful!
