When it comes to the beloved sitcom Friends, we all have our favorite episodes. Some of the most popular include season 5’s “The One Where Everybody Finds Out,” season 2’s “The One With The Prom Video,” the pilot, the finale, and the list goes on and on. There are just so many hilarious, heartfelt, and by now iconic moments from the comedy series. And just as we fans like to debate what the best episodes are, it’s equally as fun to find out the favorites of the cast.

Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green, once said her favorite Friends episode was “The One With The Prom Video,” while David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller, has talked about how much he loves “The One With The Holiday Armadillo.” While promoting his upcoming memoir, Chandler Bing actor Matthew Perry revealed his favorite, and it might not be the one you were expecting.

Matthew Perry’s favorite Friends episode

During an interview with the bookstore Indigo, Perry was asked about his book, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, along with his struggles with addiction and his relationship with humor. He was also asked about Friends, of course, and he shared his favorite episode of the long-running series.

Perry has so many standout episodes in Friends, including two of the most popular — “The One Where Everyone Finds Out” and “The One With the Embryos.” But his favorite is actually the season 1 episode “The One With The Blackout.” Here’s what the actor shared:

"“My favourite Friends episode was in the first season – it’s like episode six. We did an episode that was during a blackout in New York City, and I was stuck in an ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre and very excited about that – and then the other five actors were doing really, really funny things in Monica and Rachel’s apartment. That was when I first realized that everybody on this show was great – and that every episode was sort of like a mini movie. It was that well-written, well-directed, and acted. Just one of the greatest experiences of my life.”"

“The One With The Blackout” is a great episode, but I wasn’t expecting that one to be Perry’s favorite! It’s awesome to hear he holds an episode all the way back from season 1 so close to his heart. Now it’s time for a rewatch!
