When is the last episode of New Amsterdam?
We’re closing in on the New Amsterdam series finale. When is the last episode going to air on NBC? Here’s what we know so far.
Back in February 2020, we got some excellent news. New Amsterdam wasn’t just renewed for one season but for three seasons. We knew we’d get all the way up to Season 5. Then we got into the wait for Season 5 to learn that it would be the last season.
On top of the disappointment that it’s the last season, it’s also going to be the shortest season. There will only be 13 episodes to this season. It’s also without Helen Sharpe as Freema Agyeman didn’t return to the role for the 13 episodes.
We’re now almost halfway through the season, and we have one big question. When will New Amsterdam‘s series finale air on NBC?
When is the New Amsterdam series finale?
As of writing this, NBC has not confirmed when the last episode will air just yet. That’s not surprising. The network is sure to make a big deal about the finale once it happens.
It is possible to fit all episodes into 2022. The first episode aired on Tuesday, Sept. 20. If there are no breaks, the 13th episode would air on Tuesday, Dec. 13. If there is a one-week break for Thanksgiving, we’re still looking at Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Update: NBC has confirmed January 2023 premiere dates. We’ve seen that New Amsterdam will take a break in the fall and return with the remaining episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Variety shares there is a two-hour series finale on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
These dates are later than we see most NBC shows run. Usually, the fall finales air Thanksgiving week. If not all episodes of New Amsterdam have filmed by then, the network will need to take the winter break.
Thanksgiving would take the series up to around Episode 10. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to take a break and then wait until January for the final three episodes unless it was due to filming delays.
