What is crime drama film The Good Nurse on Netflix about?

A new crime drama film starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne is now out in select theaters for a limited time. The Good Nurse, which is based on a harrowing true story, will begin streaming Oct. 26 on Netflix.

Joining the two actors onscreen are Nnamdi Asomugha as Danny Baldwin, Noah Emmerich as Tim Braun, Alix West Lefler as Alex Loughren, Kim Dickens, and Malik Yoba.

The film is directed by Tobias Lindholm, with Krysty Wilson-Cairns serving as the writer of the screenplay. So what can you expect to see in the new movie?

What is The Good Nurse on Netflix about?

According to Netflix, the production centers around Amy Loughren (Chastain). The single mother is a compassionate nurse with a life-threatening heart condition. She has to deal with the hard and demanding night shifts at the ICU, “stretched to her physical and emotional limits.”

Enter Charlie Cullen (Redmayne), a “thoughtful and empathetic fellow nurse” who starts work at her unit, providing some much needed relief for an overworked Amy. The two start to develop a strong friendship as they spend time together at the hospital.

But things change when Amy starts to suspect that Charlie might be involved in the mysterious patient deaths happening. She’s forced to risk her life and the safety of her children to uncover the truth, the streaming service shares.

Is The Good Nurse about a real person?

Unfortunately, the Netflix project is about a real man named Charles “Charlie” Cullen. He is a serial killer who confessed to murdering at least 40 patients during his 16-year run as a nurse in New Jersey.

Though, he actually killed hundreds more but does not remember them by name. Cullen could remember details of their murder though, and could actually be responsible for 400 deaths. He has been sentenced to 18 consecutive life sentences and currently serves his time at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.

The Good Nurse is now playing in select cinemas. The movie will drop Wednesday, Oct. 26 on Netflix.
