The Bold and the Beautiful recap (Nov. 3): Hope stuns in the showstopper
By Sabrina Reed
All eyes were on Hope today on The Bold and the Beautiful. Last episode, it’d been revealed that her line had fallen out of favor in the industry. Buyers and reporters alike assumed that it was a part of Forrester Creations storied past. A triumph for the fashion firm for sure, but one that had seen its glory days and was existing on its legacy now rather than making waves.
It was a jarring addition to the soap considering no one, not even Hope, had mentioned that this millennial brand had become an after thought in the halls of fashion. Nonetheless, it’s clear that Hope for the Future is making a come back as those in attendance oohed and awed over the beautiful gowns on display.
The clincher, however, as Steffy repeatedly mentioned, would be the showstopper that Hope was set to model. If she couldn’t pull off a stunning moment of her own in the gown, then all would be lost. Thankfully, her appearance in the ’20s inspired frock didn’t disappoint.
But what was disappointing was Liam’s absence at the fashion show. Instead of supporting his wife, he crashed the tail end of his father and brother’s business lunch, launching into yet another explanation for why he couldn’t stomach being at the preview.
Bold fans, I was not impressed by the Spencer heir, but it’s not exactly like he was wrong about what he would have to bear witness to if he went. Here’s what happened today on our soap.
The Bold and the Beautiful recap (Nov. 3)
While Liam complained about Thomas’ position in Hope’s life to Bill and Wyatt, the team at Forrester Creations were watching Hope’s line receive much deserved praise. The fashion was spectacular and dramatic with a palette that ranged from beige to black to silver to a singular red dress. It was a step up for Hope for the Future’s line which has typically been depicted as young, fun, and fancy free.
These outfits were sophisticated and sexy whilst still maintaining a bit of whimsy like the use of fringe in a few pieces and exposed boning for corseted dresses. There was also a black number that gave high end witch with a wide brimmed hat and a sheer gown that flowed like water. Thomas and Zende elevated the brand, that’s undeniable.
The showstopper, a nude dress with silver metallic accents that invoked the flapper era of fashion, was on par with the rest of the collection. However, I don’t buy that Hope inspired Thomas to make this particular dress.
Thomas gave Hope a speech about how the gown embodies the way he sees her as a woman who commands the room, one who is every bit as loving as she is passionate and full of sex appeal. It’s a great dress, I just didn’t get all that from it. Especially because, though she looked beautiful in it, there wasn’t anything about it that screamed Hope, but I digress.
In any case, the showstopper was a hit and Hope did exactly what Liam said she would do. After acknowledging the Forrester higher ups, her creative team, her husband, and her kids, she took a moment to thank Thomas her “partner-in-crime” and invited him on stage so they could take a bow together. Liam was right even on down to the pair holding hands while the audience applauded them and they smiled at one another.
Liam said he couldn’t handled watching that especially not after overhearing Thomas tell Hope that this was their moment together, their achievement. Curiously, Liam referred to the hug between Thope as Thomas holding her. There wasn’t anything intimate about that embrace, but Liam’s word choice suggests that he felt there was.
He got closer to putting some of the blame on Hope today as he questioned why she’d even let Thomas touch her considering everything he’s done including attempting to kidnap her and keeping the fact that Beth was alive a secret. But, what Liam doesn’t know is that Hope has gone as far as entertaining Thomas’ speeches on how he’s a one woman man and the woman for him is her. He did it again in this episode and she once again didn’t say anything to him about it.
Liam wanted to punch Thomas over a consensual hug, I can’t imagine what kind of violence he’d want to enact if he knew the conversations that Hope has been having with Thomas. This is not all on her lead designer, she’s been allowing Thomas to get emotionally close to her again and hasn’t deterred him. She also isn’t correcting Douglas’ behavior either or making this situation any easier for Liam.
So, while I don’t agree with his decision not to attend Hope’s career changing event and certainly don’t think he should be trying to celebrate with her afterward like Bill suggested when he couldn’t even bring himself to sit in the audience, he’s not incorrect about how inappropriate this turn of events is.
I suspect this is only going to get worse in tomorrow’s episode because Douglas just watched his parents share a pivotal moment together in their careers. This little boy wants the two to be together so bad and is ignoring the fact that his mom is already married. He’s in the middle of parent trapping, and I doubt we’re making it out of this preview storyline without at least one more awkward attempt at matchmaking.
Until next time, Bold fans. Stay beautiful!
