Horror fans were pleasantly surprised when it was announced that a Friday the 13th prequel series was in the works. But we were even more shocked to learn that this series would be streaming on Peacock, of all places. But what will Crystal Lake be about? When does the series premiere? Here’s everything to know ahead of the release.

When it comes to horror movies, the Friday the 13th franchise is one of the most popular and successful movie series in the genre. Jason Voorhees is a very recognizable name, as well as his iconic goaltender mask, or as many call it, his hockey mask.

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that not every movie in the Friday the 13th series is great. They can be hit and miss, but it’s all about the experience and thrills (cheap thrills, at times). There are currently 12 movies in the franchise. We really hope that a 13th movie is made, how amazing would that be? In the meantime, at least we have a TV series, Crystal Lake, in the works.

What is the Friday the 13th prequel, Crystal Lake, about?

Peacock being the home for Crystal Lake isn’t a huge move if you have been paying attention to the world of streaming entertainment. Peacock is a newer platform, but it has been climbing standing out and becoming a true competitor in the past several months. And the premiere of Crystal Lake (and from A24, no less) is going to help push the streamer even more.

Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods) is the writer and showrunner for Crystal Lake, an upcoming prequel series. While not much about Crystal Lake is known at the time of this writing, we assume the prequel series will follow Jason as a child and what led to his death. Was his drowning accidental? Due to neglect as the story has teased? Fans would love to learn about Jason before he became the serial killer we meet in the Friday the 13th movie.

As soon as we learn more about the upcoming series, we’ll update you!
