After rumors and speculation, ABC has made it official. A Million Little Things Season 5 is going to be the last. Why has the decision been made?

When A Million Little Things was renewed for a fifth season, there were rumors that it would be the last. Then we learned that it would be pushed to the midseason, which made the idea of it being the final season have more substance. Now we have that confirmation.

ABC announced its midseason premiere dates, with confirmation that A Million Little Things Season 5 would premiere on Wednesday, Feb. 8. at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Yes, Deadline confirms that this is the final season of the series and that the series will bow out in the show’s original timeslot.

Why is A Million Little Things Season 5 the end?

It turns out that this decision wasn’t just a network decision. It wasn’t just the fact that the live ratings had taken a downward turn over recent years, although the delayed ratings are strong. This was a decision made with creator DJ Nash and the show’s producers.

When it was picked up to series, it was with a five-season story in mind. DJ Nash made it clear in the announcement video that he wanted to see the journey of these friends come to an end when the time was right. That time is five seasons.

This season has been written as a final season. That’s great news for fans, as it does mean that the story will wrap. We have hope that there will be happy endings for each of the friends, even if it’s not the exact ending that we would have liked.

What isn’t clear is the episode count. With it being a midseason show this year, we’re expecting a shorter-than-normal episode count. We’ll bring those details once we have them.
