Tensions rose in Canada, leading to June’s life being at risk. Did she and Luke get out in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale?

We see it in real life. At first, there’s a push to bring refugees into a country, and then people within that country get fed up. They want the refugees to go home, and they don’t really care what the refugees are going to face once they do go “home.” It’s not like the refugees in Canada in The Handmaid’s Tale really had a home to go back to.

For June, it wasn’t just about trouble from the refugee haters. She also had Gilead against her, and of course, they were going to work with the refugee haters to take her out of the equation. So, at the start of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale, it wasn’t too surprising to see someone run June over with his car. June left with a broken arm, but that was only because Luke stepped in and attacked June’s attacker.

Sadly for Luke, the man died. Luke was wanted for murder, but would he and June be able to get out of dodge in time? Would they get Nichole to safety?

Did June and Luke get out of Canada in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale?

The finale saw Moira book flights to Hawaii for the couple and Nichole, but Mark showed up with bad news. Police knew Luke would try to flee so flagged his name. June would also be arrested for aiding his escape.

Mark had another option. Refugees were getting out of Canada. They were heading to Toronto to get on trains to Vancouver. From there, they’d be able to get into what is left of America.

So, off June and Luke went. At the station, they realized that police were searching for Luke. June managed to get past the barrier to the train, but not Luke. He called her to tell her to get on the train. Unlike Boston, June wasn’t going to be arrested and she wasn’t going to lose her daughter. Instead, Luke is the one arrested and June and Nichole got out of Toronto.

It did turn out that June and Nichole weren’t the only ones on the train west. Hearing the sound of a baby crying, June walks over to find Serena Joy there with baby Noah. We hadn’t seen her all episode after she managed to escape with Noah at the end of the previous episode. Well, it looks like she’s playing the part of an American refugee. Fate is always going to bring these two back together.

What happened to Nick in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5?

During the episode, Nick headed to Toronto to see an injured June. He’s angry that Lawrence put out a hit on June. Lawrence says that he didn’t, but nobody can believe a word that man said. Nick also sets up an agreement with the Americans to be their Eye.

That doesn’t go to plan, though. When Nick gets back to Gilead, he punches Lawrence in front of High Commander MacKenzie and others. He’s arrested for that.

Rose comes to see him, questioning why he even pretended to love her. Part of Nick probably did, but he could never let go of June. Rose doesn’t want to be with Nick anymore, although I’m not too sure she gets a choice in the matter. The only thing going for her is that she’s the daughter of a powerful commander who is friends with High Commander MacKenzie.

We end the episode with Nick in custody and no idea what’s going to happen to him.

Did Janine get posted in The Handmaid’s Tale?

Some of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale was focused on Janine. Aunt Lydia had no choice but to post Janine. She chose Commander Lawrence’s place after an agreement with Naomi. Janine had to prove herself, though.

It looks like Naomi wants to make amends a little, but I don’t trust her. When Janine learns that June was attacked in Canada, she also decides that she’s not going to play nice anymore. She makes it clear to Naomi that they are not friends.

Janine is sent back to the Red Center, but not for long. Lawrence has ordered Janine’s arrest. Lydia can do nothing to stop it, and we have to question what Janine has done for the arrest. Is Lawrence trying to get Janine out, or are we seeing a completely different side to Lawrence? This ending for Janine is very similar to the ending for June in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 1.
