The White Lotus season 2 is in full swing on HBO, and this time around the characters are even more frustrating, chaotic, and complicated. In the first few episodes we’ve gotten so far, we get to meet the new batch of White Lotus guests, including married couples, a family of men from three generations, and a miserable assistant on a work trip. And of course, there’s also the staff at the hotel just trying to keep things together, and the locals who won’t hesitate to make a scene. Overall, it’s been a really enjoyable watch.

Spoilers ahead for The White Lotus season 2 episode 3, “Bull Elephants.”

The third episode, “Bull Elephants,” is now streaming, and it advances the plot a lot further. Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) has her final moments with her husband Greg (Jon Gries) before he has to leave Sicily, while Harper (Aubrey Plaza) and Daphne (Meghann Fahy) head to Noto for a girls’ trip. While they’re there, their husbands misbehave with the local ladies, Lucia (Simona Tabasco) and Mia (Beatrice Grannò).

Fans have been curious about Tanya and Greg’s relationship as it’s obvious Greg is up to something this season. In The White Lotus season 1, he seemed so devoted to Tanya, but now he’s super wishy-washy and seemingly hiding something. What could be going on?

What’s going on with Tanya and Greg in The White Lotus season 2?

As mentioned, Greg’s been acting super cold toward Tanya, even making a comment about her weight in the first episode. In another scene, he’s making what seems to be a secretive phone call in which he calls Tanya “clueless.” And in the second episode, he breaks the news to Tanya that he has to leave Sicily for a work commitment in Denver. He tells her he’ll be back in just a couple of days, but it breaks Tanya’s heart nonetheless.

In the newly-released third episode, Tanya and Greg have breakfast together and she questions if he even wants to be with her anymore. She says she feels like now that he knows he has more years to live — he was suffering from a terminal illness in season 1 — he realized he doesn’t want to spend them with her. He shoots this idea down and reminds her he’ll only be gone for two days.

Of course, fans are convinced that Greg is cheating on Tanya and that’s what he’s been hiding. Others have theories that are even darker, claiming their whole marriage could’ve been a ploy constructed by Greg’s company, the Bureau of Land Management. Some even think Greg wants to kill Tanya! My first thought, honestly, was that maybe he’s actually planning something sweet for Tanya and has to keep it a secret. That would definitely surprise viewers, but at this point, I’m not sure anymore. The show is really making Greg seem like a bad guy, so maybe he is.

During a joint interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gries and Coolidge talked about The White Lotus season 2 and the whole Greg situation:

"“Yeah, Greg is being really weird,” Coolidge said. “I didn’t do anything but he seems very irritated with me and he can barely look at me when I’m in the room with him. He’s always off doing something, all of his phone calls are very muffled, he does them in the bathroom — that’s weird.”"

Understandably, Coolidge and Gries were not able to provide any answers as to what’s up with Greg, but maybe one of them will slip a tease before the season is over!

We probably shouldn’t expect Greg to appear in the fourth episode if he really does leave Sicily, but we’ll be curious to see if and when we’ll see him again. In the meantime, Tanya has her assistant Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) to annoy, which should be amusing to watch.

The White Lotus season 2 premieres new episodes every Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
