Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas cast: Who’s in holiday special?

NBC is bringing us some holiday cheer with Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas special! The film is a two-hour event, which will air Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 pm. ET on NBC. There’s of course the titular talent herself. Who else joins her onscreen?

The film is a “modern-day movie musical” that takes us backstage into how a television special is made, NBC shares. While a number of production numbers and rehearsals are happening, Parton will have to reflect on her past when the Three Wise Mountain Men pop up.

This inspires the singer to go “rogue” just as the special is about to air. Because that’s when Parton realizes Christmas “lies in the hearts” of the children we all once were, the holiday is about who we spend it with, and the importance of Christmases past, present, and future, according to NBC.

Many of the characters in the film are based on the actual crew working behind the scenes. Real-life writer and executive producer David Rambo took on the duties with Parton and the real-life Sam Haskell. The actual Billy Levin, as well as Steve Summers served as producers.

Hudson Hickman, played by actor John Newberg in the movie, took on EP duties, with Joe Lazarov directing and executive producing. Kathryn Burns choreographed the musical numbers alongside assistant choreographer David Hull.
