The conclusion of popular HBO series, His Dark Materials, is upon us! The fantasy drama is based on a trilogy of books of the same name by author Philip Pullman. And lucky for us fans, all three novels have been adapted.

The third and final season of the show is based on the final story, The Amber Spyglass. The final chapter sees Lyra, the prophesied child, and Will, the bearer of The Subtle Knife, having to embark on a journey to a dark place no one has ever returned from, according to a WarnerMedia press release. The war between Lyra’s father and the Authority is getting closer. With this, she and Will will learn that saving the worlds “comes at a terrible price.”

In the final season, cast members include Dafne Keen as Lyra, Amir Wilson as Will, Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Simone Kirby as Mary Malone, Will Keen as Father President McPhail.

Jade Anouka as Ruta Skadi, Ruta Gedminstas as Serafina Pekkala, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Commander Ogunwe, Jamie Ward as Father Gomez, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Balthamos, Simon Harrison as Baruch, Chipo Chung as Xaphania, and Amber Fitzgerald-Woolfe as Ama, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby also round out the cast.

How many episodes are in His Dark Materials season 3?

His Dark Materials season 3 has a total of eight episodes. This is the same count as the first season, which also had eight episodes, and one up from the show’s sophomore season, which consisted of seven episodes.

The third season debuted with the first two episodes on Monday, Dec. 5 on HBO. Two new episodes will be released weekly until the series finale on Monday, Dec. 26. All episodes are also available to stream on HBO Max.
