An all new NCIS aired and brought the return of McGee’s wife Delilah Fielding. It has been a while since we’ve seen her, but as always, it’s a treat to see her and McGee together. So what was the team up to on NCIS season 20, episode 9, “Higher Education”?

In the episode, the team were investigating the case of William Watson, a student at Waverly University who was part of the NROTC. After he strips in public and runs into the street before being hit by a car, the NCIS agents must determine what happened to him.

They find surveillance from near a cafe, which shows he had met with Delilah, McGee’s wife. She’s now teaching at Waverly and Watson was one of her students. She’s stunned to learn what happened to him and the case brings up some tension.

Even though Delilah isn’t doing anything wrong, McGee finds himself feeling tense about her having meetings without him knowing.

Despite the minor issues this case stirs up, Delilah helps the team determine that Watson had created a cipher from a code she had shown him as an example of previous mistakes she made. She never thought he would use it to communicate with an unknown foreign spy.

They learn about the spy angle after working with FBI Agent Jared Baker, who had been undercover in the frat house where Watson lived. While they were able to find out who the spy was that Watson was communicating with, they still needed to find the access key that was missing.

After McGee and Delilah worked things out, she helped them figure out where the access key was. Even though they had ruled out other suspects, seeing her roster triggers Delilah’s memory. She did have one student named Logan who didn’t do as well. Logan was Watson’s roommate and wanted to use the cipher to change his grades in the university server.

Drugs, stupidity, and spies? Sounds like another day’s work on NCIS! Plus, we also got to see the return of novelist McGee, who had been struggling since Gibbs left. But with Delilah’s help, he figured out a new muse and a new main character.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see a new episode of NCIS for the rest of December. But, the show will return in January with a special three-way crossover with NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i.
