Award season is almost near, and to kick it off is the 80th annual Golden Globe Awards! The 2023 three-hour show will be hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. There are 27 categories this year, and beloved actress Julia Roberts has snagged a nomination in one of them.

The popular actress made her breakthrough in the industry with Mystic Pizza and Steel Magnolias, which was released in 1989. But it wasn’t until 1990 that everyone knew the name Julia Roberts thanks to the romantic comedy, Pretty Woman! She’s remained relevant for years and is still one of Hollywood’s most known actresses.

The popular actress has won a total of three Golden Globe awards during her career. The first was in 1990 for her role as Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie in Steel Magnolias in the Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture category.

The following year, she received her second award in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category for her role as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman. Finally, in 2001 she took home an award for playing the titular character in Erin Brokovich in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

Overall, the star has received 10 Golden Globe nominations, including her 2023 nomination, over the years. For the 2023 season, she’s been nominated as Best Actress – Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture for her role as  Martha Mitchell in Gaslit.

The show is a modern take on the Watergate scandal, with a focus on the “lesser-known” people involved in President Richard Nixon’s “downfall,” according to Starz. Roberts’ character, Martha, has a big personality and “an even bigger mouth.” She’s a socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal campaign chairman, John Mitchell.

Roberts is up against actresses Jessica Chastain, Julia Garner, Lily James, and Amanda Seyfried. Most recently, you can see her in Ticket to Paradise starring opposite George Clooney.
