Home Alone first made its theatrical debut on Nov. 16, 1990. It can be considered a historic day in the movie industry, considering the massive success the film found. And now over three decades later, the comedy is still watched my thousands nationwide every holiday season!

The production made $476.7 million worldwide at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing live-action comedy. It was also the second-highest grossing movie of 1990. The ’90s film was directed by Chris Columbus, with John Hughes taking on writing and producing duties.

The film centers around Kevin McCallister (Culkin), whose family accidentally leaves him behind at home while they travel to France for the holiday season. At first the young boy is happy to have his suburban Chicago house to himself, but soon realizes it’s not as great as he thinks it is. Plus, he’ll have to protect his home when two burglars, Harry (Pesci) and Marv (Stern), try to rob his house as well as the whole neighborhood. His mother Kate (O’Hara) does everything she can to get back to her son with the help of Gus Polinski (Candy), a polka band leader.

Home Alone and its sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, are both streaming on Disney+.
