English singer and TV personality Peter Andre is making headlines this week after urging radio stations to stop playing a Christmas classic. According to the 49-year-old dad, he believes “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams is a no-no this year and should be taken off the air during Christmastime. Here’s why.

As reported by the Mirror, Andre penned an open letter asking radio hosts to ban the beloved tune simply because it says December and the holidays are the best time of the year, but Andre disagrees. As he sees it, Christmastime can be so stressful and adds pressure, especially to parents needing to buy the perfect gifts for their kids, so the song, in his opinion, is misleading.

In his new role as “Head of Summer Holidays” for On the Beach, Andre believes he’s in the right to ask radio stations to stop playing the track, and instead keep it for the summer months which he believes is actually the most wonderful time of the year.

“By playing this track you are giving your listeners false hope that Christmas and winter in general is the most wonderful time of the year, when in fact, it isn’t, Andre writes.

Peter Andre doesn’t think Christmastime is the best time

On the Beach conducted a survey to see what Brits think of Christmastime, and reportedly, 78% of people say they’d rather go on vacation during the December holidays. “Therefore, unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the population (85%) agree the Andy Williams song is factually incorrect, proving Christmas simply is not the most wonderful time of the year,” Andre writes, also adding:

"“While I acknowledge there are some extremely pleasant moments during Yuletide festivities, these are normally fleeting and often come with a busy schedule, an empty wallet and not much to show otherwise. Strip back the gift-giving, tinsel and twinkly lights and people are left with the stark reality that this time of year is cold, dark, and expensive. Factor in the cost-of-living crisis, national strikes, overall price hikes and general low mood of the nation and you get my drift.”"

Andre also revealed that his oldest children Junior and Princess have asked not to be gifted Christmas presents this year, and instead are looking forward to their December holiday in Australia. The funniest part about this whole situation, I’d say, is that Andre himself has performed the Christmas tune and even has a music video for it on YouTube! Check it out:

We’ll be curious to see people’s reactions to Andre’s letter, as it seems just a bit dramatic if you ask me!
