Patty Jenkins has been in the news recently due to the questions surrounding Wonder Woman 3 and whether or not the film will move forward under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s regime at DC Studios.

When news broke that Jenkins’ treatment for the movie had been rejected, fans wondered if she’d go back to the drawing board or if she’d even have the opportunity to do so. The reporting suggested she wouldn’t until finally there seemed to be clarification that the director had chosen to walk away from the project.

Jenkins’, however, is disputing these claims which have been circling in the media since Dec. 7. She took to Twitter to release a statement and spoke on what happened:

"When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread. This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now."

The full statement goes on to express Jenkins’ desire not to end her journey with Wonder Woman on a negative note. It’s been a beautiful one where she’s found a mentor and friend in the incomparable Lynda Carter and a cherished friend and sister in this generation’s Diana, Gal Gadot. The director ended her statement thanking the incredible Wonder Woman fans who’ve been on this ride since the beginning.

As heartfelt as Jenkins’ words are in her statement, it was also clearly a goodbye as she turns to her next project which looks to be the Rogue Squadron movie which has been in limbo.

Is Rogue Squadron happening? Patty Jenkins weighs in

Jenkins has confirmed that the long desired Star Wars film is still in the development process. When she’d gone to focus on Wonder Woman 3, it was believed that the movie had stalled. Our sister site Dork Side of the Force even included the project on their list of “Every cancelled Star Wars project that was never made” in November with the note that the film might still be seen sometime in the future.

Given Jenkins’ words on the subject, that sounds about right. Her statement on the situation with Wonder Woman 3 opened with the following:

"Here are the facts: I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay WW3 any further. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to RS after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead."

That’s good news (for fans like myself), who’ve been hoping Rogue Squadron still happens. While it’s clear the movie won’t be making its original Dec. 2023 release date and hasn’t been greenlit for production, it is being worked on. Hopefully development doesn’t breakdown and we do get to see Patty Jenkins’ vision. We’ll keep you updated as more news rolls in.
