Regardless of what is going on, nothing makes me happier than tossing on a Christmas movie during the holiday season to make me smile. That said, I’m sharing with you the best Christmas movies to watch on HBO Max this season.

If you caught my best Christmas movies on Netflix post, you saw the platform has a decent holiday slate. However, you’d be surprise to learn that HBO Max’s slate BLOWS them out of the water with some great holiday classics. The amount of Christmas movies on HBO Max made me almost forget about them canceling Minx (I’m still mad about it). So if you’re searching for some holiday movies to watch, look no further than this post!

The best Christmas movies on HBO Max

1. Shazam!

I wanted to get this out of the way first and let everyone know that, YES, this is a Christmas movie. If we consider Die Hard a Christmas movie, then so is Shazam!. Not only is this one of the best DC movies ever made, but it’s one of the funniest comic book movies of all time.

2. Elf

I am not a person who loves Will Ferrell, but Ferrell was made for the role of Buddy the Elf. If I were to make a ranking of the best casting choices of all time, Ferrell as Buddy would be in my top ten. There isn’t a single time that I turn this movie on and don’t laugh over and over again. It’s truly a brilliant Christmas movie that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

3. Dr. Seuss’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Talk about perfect casting, another guy that would make my list is Jim Carrey as the Grinch. Everything from his voice to how he walked to his demeanor, Carey is one of the few people who should’ve probably gotten nominated for an Academy Award for his outlandish portrayal of this character. Honestly, it might be a top-five Christmas movie ever. We can’t be friends if you don’t like The Grinch.

4. and 5. A Christmas Story/ A Christmas Story Christmas

Look, I will NOT stand for any slander about the A Christmas Story sequel A Christmas Story Christmas (other than the awful name). The nostalgia in the film released last month is beautiful and my goodness does it have you in your feels. These two movies make for a PERFECT double feature this holiday season.

6. Four Christmases

Fun Fact: Four Christmases has a 25% rating on Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. I would love to go into detail about how wrong this is because this is AN AMAZING CHRISTMAS MOVIE. Vince Vaughn paired with Reese Witherspoon in a holiday comedy? I don’t care if the script isn’t perfect. I didn’t watch this expecting to see an Award-winning movie. It’s innocent Christmas fun that I love.

7. 8-Bit Christmas

Speaking of nostalgia, 8-Bit Christmas was one of the biggest surprises of 2021. It’s one well-crafted film that was so much fun to watch, especially if you were ever a kid that loved playing video games. It was such a warm, delightful film that I can’t wait to check out this season.

8. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

For the adult crowd, Harold and Kumar never steered us wrong, and with our favorite weed duo in this generation, the boys mess up the holidays together in a way that has you laughing from start to finish.

9. Fred Claus

I know Fred Claus isn’t perfect. It sure has some of the feelings of other Christmas movies from the past, but I’m a sucker for Vince Vaughn and anything he does. Factor in that Paul Giamatti is Santa Claus, and Kathy Bates is Mother Claus and you can’t really go wrong with this movie. If you’ve never seen it because of the bad reviews, toss it on and thank me later.

10. The Polar Express

Look, am I someone that loves The Polar Express? No, but is it one of those movies that you can watch with your kids and tolerate? Absolutely. Plus, you can’t go wrong with Tom Hanks in a movie.
