Game of Thrones and Aquaman actor Jason Momoa is bringing a new reality show to HBO Max through his production company On the Roam! The star and legendary rock climber Chris Sharma are both passionate about climbing. And so the duo decided to create competition series, The Climb, based on that passion.
The eight-episode season will make its debut on the streamer beginning Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 with the first three episodes. They will be followed by another trio on Jan. 19, with the final two episodes streaming Thursday, Jan. 26 on HBO Max.
The two creators executive produce the series alongside Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, Erin Gamble, Matt Shanfield, Brian Mendoza, James Mendoza, and Jonathan Retseck.
So what can we expect to see in this new competition show? We’ve got the answer for you below!
What is The Climb on HBO Max about?
The Climb is a “visually-arresting” and “life-changing adventure” that will feature competitors rock climbing, according to HBO Max. But this isn’t your average climbing at a center or gym. Amateur climbers will have to go through a number of mental and physical challenges as they make their ascents at different heights around the world. The goal isn’t just about the physical part of the sport. Participants will also explore the human spirit, the streamer shares. And they’ll be doing all of this for a $100,000 cash prize to take home and a prAna sponsored climbing ambassadorship.
The trailer reveals that we’re going to see 10 climbers make their journey upwards, Moma’s own passion for the sport, and just how dangerous and exhilarating climbing at these heights is. Expect to see the competitors in Wadi Rum in Jordan, among other spots. Check out the video below:
