Welcome to code blue weekend as we prepare to hop into the water with our fellow Na’vi friends. Below, we share the best new weekend movies to watch in theaters and available on streaming services that you won’t want to miss.

As we inch closer to Christmas, there are PLENTY of movies that are still to come out before the end of the year. But, before we dive into what’s new, share which movies have been some of your favorite from 2022? I would love to find out and see if you enjoyed any films I might have missed. Comment below your favorite films of the year.

Weekend movies to watch (and stream) today

  • Avatar: The Way of Water, Theaters
  • BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, Netflix
  • Nanny, Prime Video
  • I Believe in Santa, Netflix

Of course, the weekend’s biggest release is the movie 13 years in the making and a movie that I don’t believe people thought would come out until they saw it, and that’s Avatar: The Way of Water Now, I was NOT a fan of the original film and had low expectations heading into the sequel. I do believe that is one of the reasons why I LOVED The Way of Water. I was truly engulfed in this world for over three hours with these stunning visuals that made me say WOW, several times. Not only should you check it out, but make sure you see it on a premium screen of 3D and Dolby 3D, if possible.

Very few people love BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, as much as I do. It’s a movie that I didn’t expect to fall in love with, but I was floored by what writer/director Alejandro G. Iñárritu and the performance from Daniel Giménez Cacho. This movie will not be for everyone and is not a simple story or something easy to follow. It’s one of those artsy styles of films where I am asking you to trust me (if you like artsy films). Throw it on and if you end up watching it, let me know if you liked it.

What will you be watching this weekend? Will you enjoy a movie in theaters or streaming?
