It’s crazy to think that we have already reached the end of 2022. I wanted to thank each of you for following me along here on Hidden Remote as I bring some of my movie reviews, interviews, and more to the site. With it being the end of the year, I am sharing with you my top 10 movies of 2022.

In 2022, I watched a little over 300 new releases. I take pride in watching as many things as possible yearly because I am a part of several voting critic groups (including recently being added to the Hollywood Critics Association) that I have to share my ballot. Another thing I take pride in is trying to diversify my list with movies from all genres and filmmakers. That said, let’s dive into my top ten films of 2022.

What are the top 10 movies of 2022

I will first give you the list of movies I have included in my top 10. And below that, I’ll share some details on my personal favorites and why I feel deserve a spot on this list.

10. The Woman King
9. Decision to Leave
8. Tár
7. The Menu
6. Women Talking
5. She Said
4. Elvis
3. Babylon
2. Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths
1.Bones and All

The Woman King is one of the best movies of 2022

I remember walking into this movie with pure excitement as I was ready to see what Gina Prince-Bythewood and Viola Davis had in store for us. Shortly after walking out, I knew I had just watched not just one of the best movies of the year but one of the most original blockbusters we had seen in years. In a world full of Comic Book Movies and sequels, The Woman King stands out on its own.

The Menu is one of the best movies of 2022

The Menu features hands down one of the best screenplays of the year. It’s brilliantly layered to perfection, featuring some of the best dark comedy in ages. Ralph Fiennes is terrifying in the lead role here, with the rest of the ensemble playing their parts to make this movie great.

Elvis is one of the best movies of 2022

Elvis Presley was a big part of my childhood thanks to my dad loving his music. I was scared to see the movie, but I also have faith in the world in Baz Luhrman as he is one of the best visionaries in the business. From Austin Butler’s star-making performance to Luhrman’s great story-telling to the fantastic technical work, Elvis is one of the best biopics we have seen in this generation.

Bones and All is one of the best movies of 2022

Bones and All is one of the greatest poetic, thought-provoking love stories of all time. David Kajganich wrote the screenplay (based on a book) in such a delicate way that never minimizes the importance of this story. Furthermore, Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet bring those pages to life romantically and subtly as Maren and Lee. Toss in a downright scary performance by Mark Rylance, and you have one of this decade’s best movies.

And now, some honorable mentions:

  • Nanny
  • Top Gun: Maverick
  • Fresh
  • Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul
