Bills give Damar Hamlin health update after player’s collapse during Monday Night Football game

Monday night’s football game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals took a serious turn when Bills safety 24-year old Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field.

TVLine reports, via ESPN announcer Joe Buck who was calling the game, that Hamlin “went down around 8:55 pm, stood and then collapsed soon after.” Hamlin was suffering an immediate medical emergency. Buck stated that CPR had been performed for at least nine minutes as the EMTs treated him.

Once his heartbeat was restored on the field, Hamlin was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center shortly after 9 p.m. Initially the game was set to resume but then it was temporarily suspended before the NFL officially suspended the game at 10 p.m.

Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours.

While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress. We are grateful for the love and support we have received.

According to the tweet, Hamlin had gone into cardiac arrest after a hit during the game. Upon his transfer to the medical center, he went through further testing and treatment. Hamlin was also sedated. He remains in critical condition.

CNN has been providing live updates surrounding the response to Hamlin’s collapse including the NFL Players Associations’ position on focusing on Damar Hamlin’s health, Tuesday press availability being cancelled by multiple NFL teams, and the support and resources the union is providing to Bengals and Bills players at this time.

Hamlin’s family has released the following statement expressing their gratitude for the love and support shown toward Damar, asking for people to keep him in their prayers, and announcing that they will release updates when they have them:
