Fire Country returned Friday, Jan. 6 with a midseason premiere that was intense the entire way through. “No Good Deed” picked up mere moments after the car Bode was trapped in fell off the side of the bridge.

Gabriela wasted little time jumping after him which left Manny, Vince, and Sharon trying to get a handle on their emotions as they worried after their kids and tried to find them. The episode flipped back and forth between the rescue mission and the investigation that was launched a week later to determine what exactly happened on that bridge.

By the end, two things were clear. Nearly losing his son pushed Vince to put everything on the line, including his career, to ensure he wouldn’t be going back to the penitentiary. While the two still have a lot of healing to do, Vince respects the work Bode has put in as a firefighter and counts him as a valuable asset to Cal Fire.

Second, Gabriela’s feelings run far deeper for Bode than she’s acknowledged. Yes, out of everyone on that bridge, as an Olympian diver, she had the expertise to make the jump and search for Bode in the water. However, her decision was made by her emotions not rationale. She took a desperate leap of faith that paid off but nearly cost her her own life.

Jake was right, they do need to talk about Bode. Whether that means the end of their relationship or a need to establish boundaries remains to be seen, but Rebecca wasn’t wrong about the connection she sees between Bode and Gabriela.

Perhaps we’ll learn more about what’s set to happen with their romance in episode 10, “Get Your Hopes Up,” which premieres Jan. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Keep reading for information on the episode.
