What does the CW’s partnership with LIV Golf mean for the network?

The CW made an announcement that we weren’t really expecting. The network is making its way into the world of sports. More specifically, golf. The channel will begin broadcasting and streaming LIV Golf.

The two have entered a multi-year agreement beginning with the 2023 LIV Golf League season, according to a press release. The move is a bit surprising, but we’ve been expecting changes to come from the network since Nexstar, the new majority owner of The CW, took charge.

With the company mostly known for shows in the DC Universe, Walker Independence, and All American, what does the introduction of sports mean?

What does The CW’s partnership with LIV Golf mean for the network?

Changes to The CW were already expected to come after the new owner walked in. It’s rumored that fewer than five U.S. scripted originals will move forward this year at the network. This is a big deviation of how things have operated. But plans to make things different have already been set in motion.

In a press release, The CW Network President Dennis Miller said:

"For The CW, our partnership with LIV Golf marks a significant milestone in our goal to re-engineer the network with quality, diversified programming for our viewers, advertisers, and CW affiliates."

LIV Golf schedule on The CW

The LIV Golf League begins Feb. 24, 2023 and goes on until Aug. 6, 2023.. The 14-event schedule has 12 teams competing for a $405 million prize. The CW will air all 14 events live, as well as stream them on The CW App. Here is a breakdown of the schedule:

  • February 24-26, Mayakoba’s El Camaleón (Mexico)
  • March 17-19, The Gallery Golf Club (Tucson, Arizona)
  • April 21-23, The Grange Golf Club (Adelaide, Australia)
  • April 28-30, The Serapong at Sentosa Golf Club (Singapore)
  • May 12-14, Cedar Ridge Country Club (Tulsa, Oklahoma)
  • June 30-July 2, Real Club Valderrama (Spain)
  • August 4-6, The Greenbrier (White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia)

The LIV Golf League kicks of Feb. 24, 2023. It will be broadcast live on The CW and stream on The CW App.
