Kaleidoscope is a “Choose Your Own Adventure” series on Netflix where each episode seemingly provides a self-contained story, despite all being interconnected. Kaleidoscope episode 6, titled “Red,” is the first episode in this particular watch order (see below) where the question has to be asked: What happened during the heist?

If you’re looking to follow along, here is the order in which this Netflix series will be analyzed on Hidden Remote:

Kaleidoscope episode 6 demands the attention of the burglary

All throughout Kaleidoscope episode 6, viewers watch the main characters scramble after the 7 billion dollar heist apparently goes awry. “Red” focuses on burglars Leo, Ava, Judy and Stan, while also showing Roger and Hannah dealing with the aftermath of their flooded bank vault after the break-in.

There are plenty of question marks lingering after the heist; Where are the bonds? Where are RJ and Bob, the other members of the heist crew? Why did characters keep referencing how people weren’t where they were supposed to be during the heist? The overwhelming sense of something really bad “hitting the fan” seems to be likely, but there aren’t any concrete answers given within Kaleidoscope episode 6.

Not knowing what happens immediately will make you want to skip right ahead to “White,” which is when the grand theft takes place. Out of all of Kaleidoscope episodes viewed so far, “Red” is the first one that catapults the desire to go directly to the end to figure out what actually happened. The frantic responses from the main cast helps to elevate this need to continue watching. If you are watching in a particular order, and the next episode isn’t “White,” it’ll take all of your willpower to not go straight to that episode to find out.

What happened to the missing members of the burglary band?

It’s clear from watching episode 8, “Pink,” Bob is alive. Yes, he was injured in a way where he can only communicate through an electronic translator, but he was alive. Kaleidoscope episode 6 has Ava stating definitively that Bob is dead, even though it’s not explained how he died. Stan even asks her about Bob’s injuries before he’s told to “shut up.” What exactly happened to him? Based on what we know in “Pink,” it seems likely someone in the crew backstabbed him. Plus, what happened to RJ?

During the course of their meetup after the crime, it appears Leo or Judy are holding something back. What do they know or what did they do? As a viewer, it might not be obvious to know what happened based on facial expressions or subtleties. This is especially true when you’re watching Kaleidoscope out of order. Every single fact could be misconstrued or completely absent based on what’s already been seen.

In the case of Kaleidoscope episode 6, something major happened during the heist – and it wasn’t the successful robbery of billions of dollars. Something went wrong, players in the criminal game are missing or presumed dead, and there’s a whopping surprise left in the vault. Roger is hoping to cover up the notion of his vault being broken into, either from the customers who have money inside the vault or the FBI agents who are trying to solve the crime.

After he drains the vault from being flooded, the full-court press FBI agents are able to provide a search warrant. They witness empty safes and he explains how the money was moved to a protected location away from the heavy storms. Although his private vault is closed, and he says no one would’ve gotten into it, he still has to show proof.

As the door opens, it’s clear from the expression on Roger’s face that what’s inside should not be there. It’s certainly not common place to open a vault and see water pour out; it’s also probably not customary to immediately ask for a lawyer either. They didn’t show what was inside, so what did they see? Was there stolen property in Roger’s private vault? Is it possible there’s a dead body – and could it be RJ? Two more episodes left and the last one cannot get here soon enough!
