Angela Bassett is an incredibly talented actress who has become an icon in the entertainment industry and has earned numerous accolades for her performances.

Bassett began her career in theater before transitioning to film and television. Her breakthrough role was in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do with It. She has since appeared in a variety of films, including Malcolm X, Waiting to Exhale, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and Marvel’s Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In addition to her film work, Bassett has also had a successful career on television. She has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards for her performances in the miniseries The Rosa Parks Story as well as FX’s Emmy-winning anthology series American Horror Story.

Bassett has not only excelled in acting, but she has also made her mark as a director and producer. She directed the 2015 film Whitney, a biopic about Whitney Houston, and has produced several films and television shows.

Throughout her career, Bassett has been recognized for her contributions to the entertainment industry. She has been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has taken home countless awards over the years including a pair of Golden Globes, a Screen Actors Guild Award, 13 NAACP Image Awards, and countless others — but is an Oscar among the awards Bassett has been honored with?

Angela Bassett Oscar nominations

Across her career, Angela Bassett has taken on many truly incredible roles and delivered some of the most powerful performances to have been seen on the big screen — two of which helped to land her nominations for an Academy Award.

Bassett’s first Oscar nomination came back in 1994 when she earned a nomination in the year’s Best Actress in a Leading Role category for her role as Tina Turner in the biopic What’s Love Got to Do with It. Nearly three decades after her first Oscar nomination, Bassett landed her second Oscar nomination with her role as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earning her a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.

Angela Bassett Oscar wins

Although Angela Bassett was a favorite to win Best Actress back in 1994 for What’s Love Got to Do with It, Bassett lost that year to Holly Hunter who took home the Best Actress Oscar for her work in The Piano.

This year, Bassett had the chance to take home what would have been her first Oscar with her nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Sadly, Bassett lost to actress Jamie Lee Curtis who took home the Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once. While she did not win the Oscar, Bassett did take home a Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and NCAAP Image Award for the role of Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
