Although Angela Bassett was a favorite to win Best Actress back in 1994 for What’s Love Got to Do with It, Bassett lost that year to Holly Hunter who took home the Best Actress Oscar for her work in The Piano.
This year, Bassett had the chance to take home what would have been her first Oscar with her nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role. Sadly, Bassett lost to actress Jamie Lee Curtis who took home the Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
