The Last of Us Season 1 has come to an end, and now all eyes are on how the second game will be developed. Will there be more seasons to the story?
The first season of The Last of Us followed the first game pretty faithfully. There were a few elements to give the side characters a backstory and to flesh out some of the smaller stories. We know there is going to be a second season to continue the story, but will that be it?
Is there a point where the series will run out of source material to develop into the story? Could we see the second season be the last of this heartfelt story of survival?
Will The Last of Us Season 3 happen at HBO?
As of right now, HBO has not confirmed whether The Last of Us Season 3 will happen. That’s not too surprising, though. The second season hasn’t even been written yet, and networks are not in a big habit of renewing for multiple seasons right now.
However, according to TVLine, there are plans to go ahead of the second season. Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin won’t say just how long they have planned for the series, but they know that it will take more than one season to convert the story from the second game. Right now, all we know is that it will take “more than one.”
We’re sure to see much more of this thanks to the ratings. It remains a series that has grown in popularity over the course of the season, with the main complaints being about how the setting doesn’t look like it’s close to Boston at all.
We’re looking at The Last of Us Season 2 arriving at some point in 2024 at the earliest. We’ll probably find out around then if there’s going to be more. The show’s creators want there to be more and the ratings are good, so I wouldn’t count on Season 2 being the last just yet.
The Last of Us is available to stream on HBO and HBO Max.
